Hey everyone! I'm new here. I just built a new PC and I'm looking at some huge temp fluctuations on my CPU. Im looking at an instant 20C - 40C increase to 70C - 80C for a split second before it drops back to 37C. Is this normal? I've tried reseating the cooler twice and got the same results.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Asus Impact VIII
Cryorig A80 CPU Cooler
16GB G.Skill Trident Z
GTX 1080 SeaHawk

SigmaWolf,

Intel's specification for Digital Thermal Sensor (DTS thermal sensors within each Core) response time is 256 milliseconds, or about 1/4th of a second, so it's safe to say that Core temperatures respond instantly to changes in load.

Since Windows has dozens of Processes and Services running in the background, especially during the first few minutes after startup, it's normal to see Core temperatures fluctuating, so reseating the cooler has no effect.

Many instances of tray trash can be safely removed from Windows Startup, which will help to reduce Core temperature fluctuations.
