Hi, I bought an Alienware m17x a few years back when I was needing a laptop more than a desktop. I then got a friend to custom build me a desktop when I moved into my own apartment (who I am no longer in contact with) which is absolutely fine for games, but I recently want to play Civ6 on my laptop but it just won't run. I'm tempted to upgrade my laptop so that I can run the game as sitting at my desktop for 8 hours on a weekend is starting to kill me.

I currently have,

Video Card - GeForce GT 240M
CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 840 @ 1.87GHz
RAM - 8GB
OS - Windows 10
Sound Card - NVIDIA High Definition Audio

I'm pretty sure its just the Video card that is the problem here? Although would I need to upgrade my CPU also?

Also something else I have noticed is that my laptop battery dies extremely quickly, any recommendations on that?

Thanks,
DC

Any suggestions, as mentioned my laptop is an Alienware m17x.

Unless the alienware is different than almost all laptops, you will not be able to upgrade the GPU or the CPU . Laptops generally only allow upgradeable RAM/storage.

update - although im seeing people selling the GPU from the alienwares. i see some 260's and 280's on ebay. I have NO idea you would swap them out or if you would use the old heatsink... but i guess it might be an option for you

Might be able to replace the CPU too... i see people posting about them in notebookreview.com apparently

Unless your Alienware laptop is one of those that allows you to use a "Graphics Amplifier" then you're screwed.
Graphics amplifier is another way to call an external gpu. A very costly way to go.

If money is an issue just buy yourself a Dell i5 from Ebay for like $150 and stick in a GTX 1050ti for $140 and you're set.
