Hi everyone,

I'm in desperate need of expanding my storage situation at home. I'm looking to get NAS mainly for storage of media which will be accessed from a separate Plex server I built. So I don't require it to transcode or stream as that's already taken care of. I think I just need it to function as a strict network access storage.

Can anyone make some recommendations for a good unit that has room for expansion at a good price? If I should be considering other features, please let me know!

Thanks

Synology, QNAP, Buffalo, and others have some simple NAS devices with 2, 4, or more drive bays. You can even build your own by adding drives to a Windows PC and enabling DLNA support. So many options, too many to list - check out Tom's or Anandtech for some good reviews.

Edit: In fact, a good review of NAS OS' can be found here at Anandtech.

Synology is the way to go. They have 2 bay units if your not looking to spend too much.

DS416, DS916+ or a DS1515+ are some of their lower priced units but for a plex server it's excellent.
