We have pre-wired Cat6 camera cables that ultimately connect to the smart pane in the garage. The internet also originates in the garage. I need to send both of these to the Router to the second floor. A Cat6 cable is prewired to this location. I used a switch to combine these 4 cameras and internet to send up to the router. I have internet, but the cameras will not show a picture when the NVR is connected to the router. Am I missing something? Please help. Thanks

The problem is you need two cables going from the garage to the router. One for the INPUT side (Internet) and one out the OUTPUT side (cameras).

The wiring in that house was designed to have the router in the garage. If you need WIFI upstairs you should add a WIFI access point there.

I was afraid of that. That is unfortunate because I did not put 2 drops there. I live in SE Va. Is it reasonable to put the Router and NVR in the garage?

They could physically share the same wire IF you had the necessary hardware. You don't. Consumer grade hardware is not intended to do things like that. My recommendation is to put the router in the garage add a switch on the LAN side of the router if required and add WIFI access point(s) in the house for coverage. That is the simple and reliable method.
