This is solved. I just replied with what they gave me, sorry if I shouldn't have. Thought it might be useful info.

[strike]Sorry if this isn't the right forum, I didn't see where else to put it.

I sent in an R9 280X Gaming 3G a few weeks ago that died. It is covered by a 3 year warranty, I've had it for 2. They finally emailed me back with this.

"Dear customer,

Replacement is not available for your RMA. To not further delay, we can only offer refund instead.
Please advise if we can process check refund, thanks."

It's an older card they no longer have in stock. It cost me about $300 and they are offering to refund it now for 92...That is not a refund... I can't even purchase a decent replacement for that. I emailed them back saying 92$ won't work. I talked to customer service and that's what they said to do.

Any tips for me? I don't know what they are gonna do, but 92$ is insane cus I spent nearly 300 on it 2 years ago and the pos died on its own and it's still well under warranty.

I would ask to speak with management and advise unless the full price you paid is refunded or you are offered a comparable card which would be the RX 480.

If they say no just go to the Better Business Bureau.

To start with remember that you have had it 2 years so it has devalued, now I agree $92 is too low for this. Can you ask them to send you a RX 470 instead for replacement or $130 instead as a counter? Just see what they can give you that is a current gen card that matches or beats the 280x which is a RX 470.

Ok thanks, I will see what they say next (emails) and request a comparable card as a replacement instead. I understand that it is an older card and I'd have no problem accepting lower than purchase price, but yea 92$ is ridiculous. I feel like I'm legit being scammed if that's all they will offer me. If they email me back saying they will just send the card back and do nothing then I'm going to lose my dam mind :(

Should I say RX 470 or 480? I know nothing about these cards, I needa look up the specs

The R9 280x tends to sit between the RX 460 and RX 470 in terms of performance. MSI probably doesn't want to give you a 470 because that would be an upgrade but you would feel scammed if they gave you a 460 as that is a weaker card a lot of the time, and it has less VRAM. If they had an R9 380 4GB still in stock, that would be a newer rough equivalent to the 280x.

In any case, MSI's crappy customer service and incompetent RMA team in Canada is why they're on my permanent do not buy list.

Seems like a pretty decent deal.

Glad that it worked out for you.
