ive a gigabyte z68m d2h, and since my motherboard doesnt recognize my new graphics card on the main pci slot , i changed it to the second pcie slot which is a x16 that works x4 , but when i enter the nvidia app and check the system info , it shows that my bus is a pci x1 gen 2, so what i want to know is, is there a way to change that bus to x16 or at least to x8 since its a pci x16 anyways. Thanks in advance

No, you can't change the PCIe x16 slot that is 4 lanes. Look closely inside the slot. You'll see it only has contacts running part way down the length of the slot. It is physically only 4 lanes.

I suspect you may have a failed south bridge since the main slot is not working and the x4 slot is only reporting x1 lanes. If so (and if you game) it is time for a new board.

Let me see if I have this straight... the HD 7870 works @ x16 lanes on the main slot and @ x4 lanes on the 2nd slot. Correct?
Meanwhile the GTX 1060 doesn't work at all on the main slot and @ only x1 lanes on the 2nd slot?

If so... can you test the GTX 1060 on any other board? Also check the rows of contacts on the card's edge connector to be sure there isn't any problem there.

I have an Evga GTX 1060. It works on every board I've tried it on. The one in my sig below, an Asrock 990FX Extreme6 (AM3+), an old Asus M4A89TD PRO/USB3 (AM3), a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P (LGA 775), a really ancient Biostar A760G M2+ (AM2+), and even a Dell T3500 Workstation from the LGA 1366 socket era.

So it really amazes me that the Z68 board would have trouble with the Gigabyte version of that card. The Z68 chipset is newer than most of the boards I listed above. Did you remember to update the board's BIOS to the latest version?

That is indeed odd. One brand 10-series card works fine, another brand does not. If you feel it is worth it, contact Gigabyte and explain all this to them. Ask them what is wrong with their card's BIOS that it doesn't work on your board, while another 10-series brand does. I'm sure they would want to know.

Well i came to a conclussion that the gigabyte version of the video card has a compatibility problem with sertain motherboards, cause i tried the same video card but from zotac and it worked just fine on my pc.
I already changed the card to a rx 480 sapphire and its working like a charm on the x16 slot.
I really dont know how to message gigabye to give them a heads up about this matter .
