Return vs. RMA? MSI RX480 Gaming X Fan Not Functional

Hello all, first time posting so I'm coming here for some help. I bought an MSI RX480 Gaming X about a month ago from Jet.com. I've noticed that one of my fans does not spin on occasion. When they SHOULD be spinning, sometimes both works, sometimes the one closest to the power connector does not spin. I have to physically give it a nudge to get it spinning. Should I return this to Jet.com or get an RMA? I've never been through the RMA process and I heard they take forever for video cards. Does anyone have this fan problem? I feel like it'd just be faster to just return the card, and buy one now with the return money. Thoughts?

Sorry, didn't read carefully. When I got my card yesterday, I checked to make sure everything under the shroud was plugged in/screwed in/clipped in properly, and found a couple loose screws that weren't important to overall function. I wonder if yours has similar QC issues, except fan-related.

If it's one of the two fans going wrong, I'd check the fan cable/plug first, making sure it isn't falling out or crimped or folded or something. If spinning the fan by hand (when completely powered off, don't hurt yourself) isn't completely smooth, or a solid fan plug connection doesn't fix the issue, I'd RMA the card ASAP.

That's functioning as intended. MSI calls it the Zero Frozr or something or other, but it shuts off the fans when the card is below a certain temperature threshold to be quieter. If you install the MSI Gaming app, you can go and turn off this feature so the fans are on all the time.

I just got me an MSI graphics card too. Went clicking through every available menu to see what stuff would do. XD

It's usually faster and less hassle to return the card to the retailer, although I have no experience with jet.com. I normally buy from NewEgg or Amazon. Both the manufacturer and retailer prefer that you do the RMA, but who cares what they want. If Jet.com is will to give you a refund at no cost to you then I would opt for that path. It's possible the cost of returning it might be at your expensive but some of the bigger retailers will pay for that as well. I'd be surprised if Jet.com would actually pay for shipping back to them.

This is not the problem I'm having. I'm fully aware of their fan stop implementation. My issue is that when the GPU gets hot enough to kick in the fans, sometimes one of the fans does not work. The fan closest to the display ports is perfectly fine. Spins when it should, but the other fan doesn't always turn on.

+amtseung Are you absolutely sure that's per design? In the past MSI Zero Frozr meant that both the fans would simultaneously pause or resume due to demand or temp; can't remember which. I've personally never heard of only one fan pausing, although I suppose it's possible that they've made a change. I had an older MSI GTX 970 4G Gaming card and both fans would stop but never just one. What's your experience?
