Overclocked AMD 8320 vs 8350 vs an Intel

So I'm currently looking to upgrade my computer's processor and motherboard. Here is my current full build. I upgraded to a GTX 1070 GPU over the summer and my stock speed FX 8320 is bottlenecking it. With Black Friday sales (and a lot of schoolwork) rapidly approaching, I find myself with several options on a semi-moderate (about $300) budget:
Free (unless everything explodes): Try my hand at overclocking with my sub-par motherboard.
Cheapest: Get a new motherboard that can handle overclocking and buff up my 8320.
Moderate: Get a new motherboard and a 8350 and overclock it slightly.
Expensive: Switch to an Intel processor and motherboard.

I use my computer for gaming, game design (animation, 3D modeling) and video editing.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

EVERY motherboard has negative reviews. many of them are user error or shipping issues. That is why I hate hate hate user reviews.
The UD3 and UD3P are good solid boards with 8+2 power phases and can overclock the crap out of a 8350.

The MSI 970 Gaming is a good board and $55 is a good price for it, but I would rather have the UD3P.

Yeah I would absolutely upgrade to Intel. Overclocking your FX8320 is not going to help THAT much. Buying a FX8350 would be a waste of money considering the 8320 and the 8350 are literally the same chip except for factory clock speed.

You could get a Xeon e3-1231v3 and H97 motherboard for barely over $300.

On that we are in agreement, I was on a pretty short budget and it was my first time ever building a computer at the time. That's why I'm upgrading now, lol

if for $300 you just replace your cpu and motherboard to a better basic intel setup. if not we have failed as a group on this forum as a change in hardware is the only way to go right now as the link above is a new systems that are good for only 300 and we need only to replace the mainboard/cpu/ram in this case.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/VNN8D3 as an example. I'm not an intel expert I'm just saying it can be done. and yes it can be better then the 8350 overclocked to 4.8ghz (my current build) so lets see the intel experts come out and give him a good 300 config to upgrade to.

And let's keep it quad core, it is an upgrade, after all.

I would recommend either the i5 4590 + B85 or H97 for around $250 or the e3-1231v3 would be about $50 more. The 1231v3 is an i7 so it would be great at every task. The i5 would be plenty if this is just a gaming PC.

No amount of overclocking would save the FX8320. Even the 5.0ghz 9590 would bottleneck a 1070 a lot.

Alright, so with my current budget of $300 I was thinking about getting a 6600k (currently on sale for $220) with an $80 motherboard. Does anyone have any recommendations? I do not have any plans for doing SLI any time soon so I don't need a crazy board, just something I can overclock safely on.

Okay, good to know. I do have a CPU cooler with all the different mounts, but I didn't realize the memory problem.

Well, something I could potentially do to offset the price would be to sell some of the parts I am replacing, but because it is used and older stuff, I probably would not get very much for it...

Alright, I would like to thank all of you so much for your assistance and advice, and I will be sure to come back to this thread in the future when I upgrade. For now (having realized one of the biggest hangups in my system is my current motherboard's puny 3gb SATA connectors) and due to my tight budget, I am going to temporarily forgo a full system switch to an Intel build and just upgrade my motherboard. That will last me until I finally have enough money to do a proper upgrade.
If anyone has suggestions for an AMD motherboard (was planning on the MSI gaming 970 based on a friend's recommendation) I would appreciate that as well.

I'm going to get a MSI 970 Gaming, I was able to find it for a pretty low price (about $55.) I looked at the Gigabyte one but a lot of the recent reviews seem to be pretty negative.

Price jumped to $75 (should have ordered when I had the chance, serves me right) but I'm still going to go for the MSI 970. I've been doing more research and though I like the look of the Gigabyte board and I've heard good things about Gigabyte in the past, many of the recent reviews of the board are quite negative, citing bad customer service, dying in just over a year, etc. Plus I'd be paying $100 for it. But, most of the negative reviews seem to be on Newegg, while more positive one are on Amazon. If going for an 990FX would get me more overclocking safety, it might be worth it...
*Edit: It has just occurred to me I was looking at the 990FX version not the 970 version. It is currently 2:00AM and I should not be researching computer parts this late.

The 970 gaming should do 4.4/4.6ghz mate son in all honesty it's good enough.

You're looking $120+ for a decent 990 board that matches it on the quality front.

So no mate, 970 gaming or 970 ud3p are your best choices on the cheap , I wouldn't spend more for the sake of it

Yeah, the 990FX is no longer under consideration. It's basically come down to price between the MSI and Gigabyte, and there's a $68 version of the Gigabyte ($58 if I'm willing to buy used)
I might just flip a coin at this rate

I'm looking at some of the review on the gigabyte & reports of board failures seem to be rife.

I'm running a v1 here , it was IMO the most solid on the quality front.
The v2 was OK IMO, not sure if Gb have had some product quality issues by some of those reviews .if you do go GB then it has to be a ud3p,

The ds3p, d3p, ud3 are all far worse overclocking boards & I would not recommend them.

The gaming may be an overall safer bet.
