Hey!

My CPU is aging. It could probably push itself for another year, but I'd manage to break it by then. I'm looking for some upgrade suggestions.

My current GPU is a 6GB GTX 1060, and my CPU is an FX-8320 4.6GHz. Unfortunately, the CPU doesn't like all the tasks I'm trying to set on it. Playing games is entirely fine, but the second I try to record or stream, it takes a dump. I also tend to put a lot of stress on it running CAD programs with complicated models. It doesn't like that either.

I'm looking for a CPU that'll last but doesn't exceed $200 ~ 250. I happen to enjoy overclocking and do have water cooling hooked up. I don't care about DDR3 or DDR4 RAM stuff, any works.

What's the best CPU that would fit that criteria? And what's a good motherboard to go with it?

Another question. Holding out for Zen. Debating just holding on and seeing what they have to offer.

What's one of the best silent cases that you guys would offer?

I would recommend you i5 6600k.
It is under your budget and it is great 4 core CPU allowed to overclock.
Motherboard for it should be z series so you can overclock it.
As for silent case i would recommend go with Cooler Master Silencio line.
AS for my conclusion parts are bellow.

As for rumors new chipset would be same priced as skylake just better. So yes you should wait till end of the year for upgrade. if you can of course :) but you will probably get i5 4 core processor not i7 for price range up to 250$ And as skitszo said if you can save up lets say 100$ more for CPU you should be able to get i7 6700k (or equivalent if you wait new CPUs) whic is high end cpu and should serve you in streaming and all your needs :)

I have to ask some things, How many cores are you looking for?
How many usb 3.0 do you require?
Any extra In/Out you need, M2 PCi SLI support?
What type of RAM do you currently have?

I can look around for you, But please understand, i don't look just at new CPU's on the market, I tend to look at overlooked CPU's.
I might be able to find a Motherboard and CPU for that price, i'll have to dig.

I'd prefer around 8 threads, probably 4 USB 3.0 and an M.2 Slot would be nice, but if you can't find one no biggie.(where did everyone come from. Jeez)

I'm currently using some really bad DDR3, so I was planning on buying new ram in the first place. I can figure that out once I've found a CPU or just loiter around for Zen.

Unfortunately, the i5-6600k doesn't actually outperform my FX CPU. In single core, yes. Multi-core, no. Multitasking, no.

That Xeon could be an option. I've never used a Xeon so I wouldn't know how they stack up to the primary line, but I'm willing to try one out.

I'll just lay out some options and see if anything goes on sale Black Friday. Zen looks promising if they don't screw something up at the last moment when they finally release the enthusiast llines.

Fair enough. I was trying to get some options of an Intel CPU so I could compare them to Zen. What about if I raise the budget to $300? Open up a few more options?

Oh, didnt realise it was being interpreted like that. $300 for CPU specifically. i5-6500 would be going backwards from my CPU.

This explains how Intel CPU's are made - Link
But, If you feel you don't want to read it just think this.
They run batch's and out of those 25% or so are throw out, the rest get binned and checked for speed. The high end yield CPU's are kept (i guess to make the factory run better, faster?) And the rest are sold in to groups. That's where you get the types of CPU's Xeon i7-i5-i3, It's not the company wants to make that many types, It's the return of the process of making CPU's.

So really all CPU's from Intel are the same just some or high yield so or low, Low being some things turned off like lanes,HT, Cores, ETC.

So lets say you wanted a i-4790K Most people would compare for i7's and i5, because they only know those series, I would look at the 1276 v3, Same chip just the Xeon has ECC ram support.

This next one is trick as everyone thinks the same on this but there is people who know better and state the facts.
Not all Xeon CPU's are locked, There seems to be 2 sides to what people call overclocking.
1st way is BLCK rise of some Xeon CPU's because they can't mess with the anything else
2nd way is overclocking the way you would on a i7.
The first way has very little return, like 105mz but on most times that's for 26XX series Xeon's and because they have many cores 105Mz on 8 cores adds up with 2 cpu's running.
The other way is making like Xeon 1650 and overclocking to 5gz, So you might have to google and the findings because people just think Xeon = Can't overclock, and it's false.

One thing to notes, now i'm not sure where you work but Intel has a program i think it's called Intel Edge reward, and if you work for a company that's on their list then you get Intel parts for very very cheap. I'm talking i7-5930K for $179.00 cheap.
https://retailedge.intel.com
Might want to look at that first because the winter deal will be coming up and i'm guessing you will see i7-6700k for $79.00 and they don't last long, Plus it's not like you just get to buy right away, you complete training videos on Intel products, Like Best Buy,Wal-Mart etc to help the person sell people intel stuff.

I'll see whats around but don't let people say you can't find good deals on PC parts or get that because i said too. I just updated my i7-4790k to a monster Dual 2011 E52670 64 ECC beast for $390.00, I don't even have a PC case yet ! just sits on the motherboard box, but works haha

But, i would guess you need fast single cores, like 4 to 8 core 5gz for games as they tend to be single apps.

I have a family member that has access to it. Unfortunately, since he works for McAfee I don't know how much longer he has access to that since McAfee just got sold again. Probably 'till the end of the year. Hopefully. I'll look around there, I didn't really know the specifics of the program.

please just read up on intel edge, it's super easy, You do some videos on intel products, and you get points and access from that site. On that site is a store, you can ether speed points to get free items like hdd or tv's. every 6 months they have a deal for ether summer or winter. message anytime.

To gain access just have a picture of his check or something, and you show teh site that you and get in, You have to show that you work for that company every 4 months. Just read through i'm sure you can understand.
