I have an older system and I am on a budget so I upgraded my cpu but now my sister needs a pc so I'm thinking of donating my computer to her with the Asrock pro4 mb, 8 gig ballistix sport ram, ssd hd and a blackhawk pc case, along with an optical drive and later get a more parts as she needs it.

So long story short looking at few mbs to choose from for gaming for myself.

Recently Bought the 1060 gtx 6gb gpu and the i7-4790k cpu and now have to get a board that will support that cpu as the money is already spend and i have the previous i5-4460 to give to her.

Need help choosing between the following MBs.

Not planning to run sli for now.

Just a main ssd for os and maybe a second for apps.

Was thinking of trying m.2 drives but the position of them on the current ASRock pro 4 board makes my graphics card overheat.

So If its in a better position that would be nice.

Mostly used for gaming and some research with like 20+ chrome windows open :)

Asrock Extreme series is really good value for money, quite solid. Better value than the other motherboards you had listed.

However for the price of Z97 motherboards I don't think there is a better deal around than the Z97 Killer.

Btw, I'm ok with no on-board video or legacy PCI slots, but would like more usb 3.0 ports and more SATA or ports.

And I've head that choosing an Intel LAN is better than other manufacturers. So any thoughts on that as it pertains to these boards?

Kind of confused on the whole PCI-E, Express and various versions of PCI-E...

But sticking with these boards or even a board that is not on here I would love recommendations if they are possibly supplied with reasons why this board is better than another.

Oh the main factor of course is money so if possible to keep it under $150... as I still need to try to get some kind of a power supply and as being suggested on here a modular one with 80+ Bronze of higher rating. (not sure what all that means but i'm learning ;) ) Thank you again.

Also the more 4 pin PWN fan connectors would be a plus as they say new better fans use those...? Any thoughts on this?

I'm also looking to try to get at least 8Gb or more if needed of some type of memory for this system which would also be helpful to find ones that are compatible and are best value per dollar?

Idk, I'm just trying to think of all the possible variation and getting lost in the vast amount of info... Please help.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($86.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $86.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The Z97X-SLI normally costs ~120 dollars, the Z97 Killer normaly cost between 125-30 dollars. The Z97 Killer has 30 dollar MIR but is still a great deal for the price. Yes, the Z97 Killer has E2400 Killer LAN I think. But overall, the motherboard is seen as a very solid one for the price. Overall, the build quality is decent.

As for your list. I'd take the Z97 Extreme 6 from ASRock. Great quality for the price.

Nice Thank you :) I was looking at the large amount of SATA ports on the AsRock MB and liked that about it. Just wasn't sure how reliable or good of a brand it is and if the other MB at a higher price where worth the extra money?... Thank you again :)

No problem, It's little effort to do so, not much. Did you end up buying a motherboard, which one?

Yep I ended up getting the ASRock Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

After I bought it and price started going down for the black friday sale, I started second guessing myself. The ASUS $144 board was for a short time for $129 or something like that.

But it had 2 legacy pci ports and and much more sli than i needed, and no ultra m.2 slots and just one m.2 slot so i figure it'll work out.

The intel upgraded lan kinda got me thinking if i should have gotten that one or not :) but over all i think with the i4790k cpu and H7 cooler it and corsair 2x8 1866 mem it should be good.

Good choice, the Z97 Pro Gamer really isn't a tier above the Extreme6. The only thing I would say is that the Pro Gamer board is the better looking one, unless you really set your PC's color scheme to black/blue for the Extreme6. Or you just don't take a windowed panel case at all :).

The motherboard also has sweet audio. I connect the HyperX Cloud's directly to the front ports (This is where the amps are applied, so make sure you do too!) and the audio quality level of Purity Sound 2 is nice. Really not lacking compared to 2016 motherboards.
