(Sorry if this isnt the correct category to use, I couldnt find one suitable for my issue.)
Yesterday, the sound on my PC randomly stopped working. I assumed it was just my headphones playing up, but if I were to plug them into my phone they work fine. Since that wasnt the problem, I decided to check if my computer had switched my default device to the digital audio which it had done before, however that wasnt the problem either.
I then unplugged my headphones and mic, restarted my PC, and tried plugging them in again. Now my PC wont recognise my headphones or mic - when plugged in simultaneously. If I plug them in individually (so just my headphones) my PC recognises them it even said audio is being played because I could see the bar on the volume mixer rise; but there was no sound being relayed through the headphones.
After that, I tried to run a system restore because I assumed that I had some virus on my PC preventing sound from being played. I find a restore point from the day prior where the sound issue wasnt occurring and begin restoring. Unfortunately it failed to restore, and subsequently removed all restore points afterwards. I even tried reinstalling my sound drivers by initially removing them and rebooting my PC but came to the same conclusion.
Now, a day later, I turn my PC on with nothing plugged in (headphone or mic) and my PC keeps switching between my headphones and the digital audio being the recognised device, despite not having my headphones plugged in. It just keeps flickering between "headphones plugged in" and "headphones not plugged in".
Another thing I tried doing is going to my services and restarting Windows Audio, resulting in no change.
I'm starting to think this is just a problem with the jacks at the front of my PC, but if anyone has and advice or suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated!
I posted this a week ago but received no reply so I'm posting it again. The current state is that my PC doesnt recognise any external devices plugged in (Headphones/Mic/Speakers).
I havent recently updated to windows 8/10 if that helps in any way.
