hello,
I was wondering if Gtx 1060 is capable of running every title for the next 4-5 years on 1440p. I have seen some benches which show that the card can produce about 45-50 FPS average on 1440p(Ultra). That'll be enough FPS for me. (5 years) can it?

Solution
You can't future proof a video card.
What you buy today will need to be replaced in a couple years their no reason to spend 600 bucks on a 1080 when you can spend 250 on a 1060 and 2 /3 years from now spend the other 350 and get a much better card of the new generation again.
5 years in not going to happen if you had a card right now you bought 5 years ago you world be running GTX 5XX card. A GTX 1060 already struggles in some games @ 1440p.

It's hard to tell, especially when games are starting to get more and more advanced. Not if you said the GTX 1080, they i could agree, but can't be honestly sure about the 1060. I'd say maybe 2-3 years than it may reach EOL for games to truly show great quality. Honestly, it's really hard to tell the future.

But, I am sure most would agree that the next 2-3 years will be great for the GTD 1060

For about 4 years and at 1440p? My answer is probably no.
Both 1060 and RX480 performs decently on 1440p, but it ain't their focus, 1080p is.

If you wanna 1440p it's either the GTX 1070 or the 1080, and as games tend to get more and more demanding, a card that isn't made for those res. now probably won't be in the future.

Your best bet for that res. is getting a 1070 or 1080,
Or go for a RX480, it will probably handle 1080p with ease in that time.

Yeah, not gonna happen with the 1060. Even 1080p for the next 4-5 years on the 1060 is a stretch if you want to stick with max settings. One good way to look at it, is look at 760's performance with current games. This isn't a perfect comparison, but it'll give you a rough idea of what a x60 series Nvidia card looks like a few years after release.

If you wanna future proof your system for 2k over the next 4-5 years, you're gonna need a 1080. A 1070 is capable of 2k gaming right now, and can get high fps, but if I were to guess, I would say it will be struggling with current titles in 4 years. In all honesty though, future proofing isn't all that effective, and from my experience, it just makes it harder for people to come to terms with future upgrades.

For example, I have a friend that bought a 780 ti at release price which was crazy expensive. That card is now right around the performance of a 1060, but he spent like 3 times as much on his card. And even though he didn't have to upgrade during the 9xx series, he spent way more money initially. Even now, he doesn't want to buy a new card because he has so much money in his last one. Whereas I have a 1060, and will have no problems replacing it with the 1160 or whatever the next Nvidia card is.

My advice, get whatever is a little better than what you need right now, and just upgrade when newer, better, and potentially cheaper cards are released in a year or two.

The RX 480 would most definitely be more future proof around that price range. It would certainly last you around 4 years or so , but not on high settings. In the next 3 years with that card i would expect Medium settings to maintain a solid 60FPS. But for 1440P then i would opt for a GTX 1070.

Uh no. You're not going to guarantee "future proof" no matter how much you spend because if you build a system for the concept of "future proofing" then you won't be satisfied with anything you have. It doesn't matter how much you spend on a graphics card for a certain monitor resolution because in a year or two it will get replaced with something better. GPUs are probably one of the least future proof components in a machine because they're always changing.
