Is a fx 8300 oc'ed to 4.0 ghz as fast as a 8350/8370 that also runs at 4.0 ghz stock?

The same with a fx 6300 if oced to the same speed as a fx 6350 are the performance the same?

If so what fx 6000,8000 is the best to buy and oc to minimum 4.5ghz or higher (Noctua nh-d15)

Solution

Intel's 'k' line is really efficient and easy to OC. You have to have bad luck or a crappy motherboard to not at least hit 4.2ghz. I'm running a cheap asrock z77 extreme 4 motherboard.

They're all the same chip with different clock speeds. The higher models are better quality and have a higher chance of better overclocking.

Other factors like motherboard quality, PSU quality and CPU cooler become factors with overclocking as well. We cannot tell you what clock you can achieve with each chip.

Altough, in my experience, almost every chip is capable o 4.8-f 5Ghz if you know what you're doing and have the means.

Yes absolutely , the 6300 & 6350 are the same chip.
As are generally the 8200/8320/8350/8370.

4.5ghz can never be guaranteed, it depends on the chip itself.
Past 4.3ghz Is when you tend to have to start pushing substantial voltage increases.

The best buy is whatever's cheapest at the time.

I would not buy a FX chip today for gaming.
Multithreaded batch apps, perhaps.
As above, all FX6 and 8 are essentially the same.
The FX8 will have more cores, but the individual cores are the same speed.
FX has a single thread passmark rating in the 1500 range.
If your potential use is for gaming, that is a poor choice.

Intel single thread core ratings are in the 2100 area.
Even the I3-6100 is a winner compared to FX-8
Here is a review.

I have a i5 4590s 3.7 ghz on all cores all the time, i know a game like project cars uses alot of cpu, with a predator x34 and a gtx 1060 a i5 4460 usage can be over 90%

playing bf1,projec cars, bioshock infinity, need for speed, dirt 3,dirt rally but not as a pro,not many hours and not every day, even when i have bf1 which is a new game i don't play it everyday, atm i don't play more than 1 hour BUT i do play alot of facebook games and on my phone.

I would like a bit more multitasking power when i watch tv,listen to music, are on a cam chat, watching twitch, have a third window (chrome) open and generally have alot of open tabs

Atm i don't have the money to buy a faster cpu, even if a i5 4690k is half price on black friday, even a used one is slightly over what i atm can afford to pay (for a used i5 4690k it starts at a price i could afford, but since it's a popular cpu the price quickly goes up 20-30%)

?? You'll gain nothing going to an fx 6 or 8 core

I have a 6300@4.4ghz & a 8320@4.3ghz, they perform virtually the same as my older i5 3470 for anything apart from heavy duty rendering.

Save your money , look for a second hand 4770 when you have enough.

An fx chip, the noctua cooler & a decent overclocking board will cost $250+

That would be money wasted badly!!

Your I5-4590s has a passmark rating of 6910, and a single thread rating of 2095.
Few games can make good use of more than 2-3 threads. It is the single thread speed of the single master thread that matters most to games.

The first requirement for heavy multitasking is to have sufficient ram so all tasks can be concurrently held in ram.
If you so not have a 66gb ram kit, that would be my first thought.

Then, a FX-8350 will cost about $150.
You will need a new motherboard, most likely a FX990 based motherboard which will cost perhaps $120.
FX chips run hot, so if you are using the stock intel cooler, plan on an added $35 for an entry level cooler. Total $305 for a processor with a passmark rating of 8949 which is nice if all 8 threads can be in use, but not so good with a passmark rating of 1504 when the power of a single thread is needed.

You will likely need to reinstall windows. Your currently installed drivers are not likely to work.
Lastly, if your os is windows 7 oem, you may run into activation issues since the motherboard has changed

I5-4690K goes for about $160-$190 on ebay.
Passmark number is 7705/2233.
That is a good deal, particularly if you have a motherboard capable of overclocking.

However, I would not buy the i5-4690K.

I suggest a I7-4790K which sells for $220-$250 on ebay. It has the same 8 threads as a FX-8 but it has a passmark rating of 11186 and a single thread rating of 2527.
The stock clocks are high, so it will do it's job very well on a lesser motherboard without overclocking.

I do have a noctua nh-d15 cpu cooler and you must not forget a i5 4590s is limited to 3.7ghz on all cores where a fx 83..can be ozed atleast to 4.5 ghz, it almost seem to me like it's on pair with a i5 2500k since they could also very easy go to 4.5 ghz or more, i had have a i5 4460 use all it's power, 4 cores and bf 1 i have heard would benefit from have more cores, heres a fx 8370 that keeps up with a i7 5960x even with 2x gtx 970 in 4k http://www.technologyx.com/featured/amd-vs-intel-our-8-core-cpu-gaming-performance-showdown/4/

A i5 4590s can score over 7000 but a stock fx 8350 scores close to 9000 (passmark), i know single core performance from the fx is not that great but to a certain degree it compensate for that with more cores.

When (if possible) does a fx 6000/8000 get more closer to 2000 in single core performance than the stock speed?

I could get a fx 9370 for mabye 100€ but it has a tdp of 220watt with a max temps of 57 degress you need a serious cpu cooler not to hit 57 degress with that cpu

That fx also shares cache memory between physical cores. Intel cores have their own and only split it between logic cores. If you really want to blow money on a 'side grade' or marginal performance increase, get the 4690k and a cheap OC'able motherboard.
