Are sound cards worth it for gaming?

It's pretty good, the motherboard's audio, but I don't like realtek as much as Xonar DX. As a budget gamer I would say no but if I were an enthusiast, I would definitely grab myself a sound card.

But from my enthusiast friends, they all have this - https://www.amazon.com/PCI-Express-XONAR-ESSENCE-STX-90-YAA0C0-0UAN00Z/dp/B001OV789U/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479509093&sr=1-1&keywords=ASUS+Xonar+Essence+STX

Sound card can reduce CPU's workload but won't increase you frames by much.

Any recommendations? Also, do sound cards affect speakers and headphones?

So should I get that sound card that you use? Also, does it need drivers like a graphics card?
