How can I use my laptop's keyboard as an input device for my desktop?

It's been years since I have had a desktop computer and I am so excited to finally have a new one (not new new, used)! But I can't find a comfortable keyboard. I love the one from my Presario laptop - it feels right and has a numpad. Is there a way to use it as an input device for my new computer? Preferably something not very laggy? Like bluetooth or a network connection? Any ideas?

Solution
You can find plenty of keyboards with a similar feel to a laptop keyboard. Any remote connection to a computer will have input lag and have other drawbacks.
If you think about yanking that keyboard from the laptop and using it separately - don't think there is an (easy) way.

It would be awkward to keep a whole laptop just for the keyboard... There are some apps which would allow over-the-network keyboard and mouse control (TeamViewer, VNC come into my mind),

I would have just yanked the keyboard but I need that computer to run itunes on. I really really REALLY don't want itunes on my main PC. Something about that and bonjour - they seem very aggressive and I don't want them touching my stuff. LOL. Not that they are malevolent or anything, I just can never seem to get rid of them completely when I am done with them.

You are right. My dad had the idea of connecting them with a USB/PS2 cable but I wasn't sure if the USB port would even output the keyboard commands. Plus I didn't have a cable. I hardly ever get a chance to go to an electronics store so I took a gamble and went shopping for a keyboard on eBay. Yeah, I know, BAD idea. However, after doing quite a bit of research I decided on a Logitech k800 illuminated wireless RF keyboard and was just hoping it would "feel" right or I would have to return it. I ended up having to return it because they sent me one that wouldn't power on at all - but in the meantime I found out that it did, indeed, feel nice. And it made nice clicky noises. So I went on amazon and ordered a refurbished one. The freakin Ctrl key (left side) would get stuck every time i pressed it and i would have to pry it out with a scribe...ARG. So I returned THAT one also and then ordered a brand new one with a $5 two year warranty. Works great. Awesome keyboard. Feels almost exactly like the one from the laptop. The wirelessness and illumination (with a motion sensor at that) were just the cherries on top. The fact that it was RF sounds archaic I suppose, but whenever I try to use bluetooth with windows 7 it acts like I am trying to plug a toaster in or something. 7 does not play nice with BT - at least on any systems I have attempted it on. Sorry this was so long-winded. Thanks =]

I have (had, actually) that same k800.
Feels just like a laptop kbd.

"Had" in the sense that I wore it out...
