That is really unpleasant.
Why do you think that your drive is physically damaged? If this is the case and if the data stored on it is really important, then I believe it would be a good idea to contact a data recovery company.
Apart from that, as the drive was formatted for Win, then you can attach it to a Win machine. Then you can run some data recovery tools on it and see whether it would be accessible. If the drive is not recognized by the tool, you can see if a different USB cable would help.
