A while back my desktop started having an issue where it wouldn't display anything on the screen after startup- the fans on my graphics card, case, and the CPU fans were running and lighting up as expected, but nothing came up. I tried a different screen and HDMI cable, to no avail. I tried plugging the HDMI cable into the motherboard, just out of curiosity, and that didn't work either. Resetting CMOS produced no results. I thought it was a problem with the power supply, believing it only had enough power to turn on the fans as I have had issues with insufficient power in the past, but after replacing it this turned out not to be the case.

I'm pretty sure the problem either lies in the motherboard or the cpu, although I'm not sure which. Both are rather old- I built the computer some years ago- and apparently these symptoms could mean either. The cpu is an i5-2500k and the motherboard is an ASUS P8Z 68-V LX. If anybody knows how to help diagnose the problem without having to go and buy a part I'm not sure will work, it would be greatly appreciated.

I uninstalled the graphics card and reset the CMOS again since there is no way for me to go to the BIOS to enable onboard graphics. No results.
