i5 2310 vs i3 6100 which is better

in my rig i have an i5 2310. yesterday i found a i3 6100 laying around so i was wondering if it is better than my current cpu

The performance is around the same. With the i3 6100 you get faster single core performance, with the i5 2310 - slightly faster multi core performance. Considering you will need new mobo and ram for the 6100 I think its not worth the upgrade.
