Hi there, recently we upgraded our network to a fibre gigabit network - and its great, on nearly all our devices we are capable of 900mbps+ download and 500mbps+ upload, which is just what we wanted and more.

However on one computer we are still only able to get speeds of <100mpbs which I believe to be due to the current PCIe network card in the machine which is only capable of 100mbps. I should note that it's connected the same way as all the other devices on the network (via CAT-5e network cable).

I'm new to this whole networking and network card stuff and don't know what I'm talking about when it gets to the specifics. So I'm wondering if any cheap PCIe network cards are reliable and capable of utilising my new network speeds? I've done some looking into it but quickly get lost between the difference in some of the network cards and which one will be better for me.

I should also probably note that I'm using the PC mainly for streaming/downloading and gaming which requires high speeds to do nicely. Otherwise, I might not mind :)

Thanks for your time.

Almost any new PCIIe network adapter you buy these days will be Gigabit. But to be honest, I don't see what game will or streaming will require Gigabit connection. OTOH, torrenting is something different...
