I have an old PC we want to use just to watch videos. It is an HP Pavilion a744x on an ASUS A7N8X-LA motherboard. I have 4 gigs of PC3200 ram and am running Windows XP-SP3. The onboard sound is very bad and scratchy and I've tried updating the drivers but that doesn't help. I'd like to buy a PCI sound card (I have 3 PCI slots - NOT PCI-e). I need to know what sound card would work, either from ebay or Amazon, as I've tried one and the computer did not recognize it. Any help would be appreciated.

I saw that one. Do these sound cards need something else plugged into them. I remember years ago in the DOS age you had to have some kind of power thing plugged into the sound card and into your computer. SPIF or something? Would the 2004 Pavilion just need the card plugged in without anything extra?
