Hey everyone,

I've been trying to troubleshoot an issue with my c920 webcam while playing Planet Coaster. Through all the troubleshooting, I have a suspicion that the problem is somehow related to the USB controller. I stream on twitch using OBS, and have tested in other applications (logitech's preview in their webcam software exhibits the same symptoms). I've tried upping process priority, I've tried both the Logitech drivers and the generic UVC drivers, tried reinstalling all my chipset drivers and verified that BIOS is up to date. I went out and purchased another c920 to see if that could be the issue, same thing. The game uses about 60-65% CPU when running, and everything else works perfectly fine when tabbed out except the webcam. The game itself streams perfectly at 60fps, the webcam eats dirt though. Lowering webcam resolution to minuscule amounts doesn't work, neither does lowering all the ingame settings to their lowest. Same exact result across the board.

Here's an example of what's happening with the logitech drivers (lagging, freezing, stutter): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vRULtjPSag
Here's an example of what's happening with the UVC drivers (smooth, but tons of glitching): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfQc8ZWr61I

The camera was plugged into a usb 2.0 port, so I tried a 3.0 port with the same results. Unplugged all other devices except the mouse and got the same result. Something very peculiar happens when plugging into the 3.1 USB port though, the cam is smooth and without glitching for 5-10 seconds, and then it stops and windows indicates it has been unplugged/replugged and reinstalls the drivers.

My PC specs are:

  • i7-6700K @ 4.0GHZ
    Corsair Vengeance Lpx 16GB
    EVGA GTX1070 SC
    ASUS Z170-AR

I've verified with other streamers that stream this game and have the same cam/cpu/similar gpu that they're able to run it just fine. I've even seen streamers with weaker webcams & systems running it just fine. I'm at the end of any sort of possible known troubleshooting that I can find, and need help from the community.

EDIT: Not sure how this got posted under overclocking...swear I clicked motherboards.
