Exhaust Fan vs CPU Cooler

I just bought Far Cry 4 and it has made my CPU run hotter than any other game I've played (80 Degrees C and above). I have a Xeon E3 1231 v3 @3.40Ghz with the stock intel fan. I don't know if 80 - 90 degrees is enough to damage the CPU (If anyone knows safe operating temperatures for this CPU, that would be good thanks). My case came with only an intake fan and no exhaust fan. I am wondering if I could get away with buying an exhaust fan and if that would get the temps down a bit or if I need to buy a CPU cooler (suggestions on CPU coolers?). Thanks a lot!

That's a pretty high temp and not ideal for continuous use. You would benefit from an exhaust fan and it may be best to turn that intake fan in to an exhaust (move it to the rear of course). The negative pressure will create intake through the vents, so I would make that move immediately and purchase a new fan as an intake or even a 2nd exhaust fan. I would also consider an upgraded CPU cooler.

I would recommend buying a CPU cooler, something like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 (inexpensive and does a good job). I'm not sure if it would fit your cpu though. Easiest way to find out is Google. More fans are always good (if set up properly) but for an overheating CPU the cooler and how the thermal paste is applied is going to be the critical factors you need to address.
