If the power cord is removed, the laptop shuts off. Need help troubleshooting and fixing. Thanks!

-Update:

The problem started after tripping on the power cord. I never tried a replacement battery but I'd like to rule that out for now, just in case that isn't the solution. Thanks

The probable answer is that your battery is dead. Keep in mind these batteries wear out over time; this problem isn't uncommon at all. If the unit is out of warranty, replacement batteries are available online. Just look for a model number on the battery itself.
