I bought a computer from staples, (link: http://www.staples.ca/en/HP-ENVY-Desktop-750-229-3-2GHz...) but when i got it, I realized the graphics card is terrible, a gtx 745, and i was wondering if i could replace it with a gtx 970 or if i had to buy any other parts aswell. I don't even know if i can replace the graphics card or if the gtx 970 is compatible with my motherboard and other parts. If you need any external info or links just comment telling me what you need.

Your HP Envy 750 Desktop should have something along the lines of these specifications with some slight variations, fortunately there's only some minimal parts you have to change out in order to make it fully compatible. I marked the part with an asterisk or * symbol.

As you can see the power supply is what's holding you back. The GTX 970 uses a total of up to 150w, which in combination with the rest of your system may need up to 500w. Nvidia recommends a 500w power supply for a PC or above. Once this power supply is replaced with a higher rated one, then you'll be able to buy the graphics card and change it without any compatibility issue's.
Although the GTX 970 at this point in time is unfortunately an outdated model, and part of last year's offering of GPU's from Nvidia. Nvidia has recently released the "1000" series of graphics card's which are priced similarly and offer the same level of performance without pulling as much power.
I would personally recommend the "GTX 1050ti," for 1080p gaming. As for the power supply I'll link some options below, all of which are reliable and you can choose depending on your budget.

+nickisit7 In order to answer your question, I need you to do something for me: Please open your case and find out the manufacturer and model number of your power supply. It'll be written on the side of it. Even though the link you supplied states that it's 500 watts, which is sufficient wattage, I'd like to check the quality as well as what power connectors are available on it.
Also, what is your graphics card upgrade budget? Are you getting some great deal on a GTX 970? Otherwise, a newer generation GTX 1060 could possibly be a better purchase. One other thing, your GTX 745 is a single slot graphics card. Is there space for a two slot graphics card in it's place?
