http://pcpartpicker.com/list/6kVWBP That is my build (mostly for gaming, editing, and of course doing homework) Not gonna be playing super high demand games so will this be good enough? Also (and the most important part of the thread) how good will the discounts on boxing day be in Canada? What are the odds of me getting this build for around 500$CDN

Don't know if you'll see this but but the build you recommended was almost 600$ without windows key or a monitor, both of which I need. Also don't i3's generally unerperform for their price (just asking)

There's no reason to go with anything AMD FX right now. It already is obsolete and it will be even more obsolete when the next generation AMD platform comes out. There's things that will be discounted like hard drives, RAM, maybe some cases and PSUs. Don't expect GPUs and CPUs to be discounted. The i3-6100 would be a much better buy for that price range. I would say save your money until you can get something better like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($139.99 @ DirectCanada)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($49.99 @ NCIX)
Memory: Kingston FURY 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400...
