Old pci 4 channel sound card, will it work for win7?

Guys, just wondering if can install my old pci 4 channel sound card to my new system which is running windows 7 home.

I am sick of my onboard Realtek 8 channel crap cause It seems to be having issues I cannot seem to fix. Install, reinstall drivers, safe mode installation, blah blah and blah. Im just sick of it.

Since my Mboard has only one regular PCI slot. (board is an Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM R2.0 with an Intel I5 cpu.) was wondering if it is compatible with windows 7?

Want to know first if I can use old tech stuff before dishing out some money to buy a modern up to date sound card.

I really cant believe it! It actually WORKED!

The sound card is some generic card from "CompUSA pci 32 bit 4 channel card". The instructions say it only works for windows win98, 98SE, ME, 2k, and XP.

Tried using the disk it came with, but to no avail. I noticed that in device manager it had an exclamation on the driver saying it was a mulitmedia device but needed a driver. I figured, windows sees it, but cant run it.

So I looked at some other similar 4 channel pci sound cards on the internet and I saw one made by "C-Media.com" They make an exact 4 channel pci sound card. But on their site, its driver says it can handle the same as "CompUSA's drivers but with windows 7 32/64 OS added.

Thinking in my head that a simple 4 channel pci card must all work similar hardware wise, I downloaded the C-Media drivers and installed it. What does it hurt to try?

To my surprise, it recognized the device and now lists my "CompUSA" card as a "C-Media" pci sound card.
I tested it out by trying most of my installed games and no problems whatsoever. It plays mp3's and apparently has no problems (well since I only use 2 speakers on my computer) with anything.

The only thing I can think of is that most of the 4 channel pci sound cards that were generic made in the early and mid 2000s were all made by a similar electronic producer and then sold under different names. Only difference I would see is the written drivers. (Im assuming all this of course)

Saved me some money, and I dont have to deal with Realtek drivers and dont have to buy a sound card.
