So upgrade time is rolling around and the 10xx series is looking promising for my PC, only issue is I can not seem to find something suitable for my needs.
Budget for possible system upgrades: £465 including deliveries
(This does not include any money gained from selling my current components)
Firstly, what exactly are my needs?
Well I currently play games at a 1920x1080 resolution and I am not exactly looking to change that at the present moments, not to say the prospect is entirely off the cards.
In addition to the resolution, I want to be able to hit the 60fps mark in current titles and future titles up until the 11xx release.
Current system situation:
CPU: Intel core i5 4690k 3.5Ghz- Looking to upgrade when intel stops crawling and starts running, the AIO was introduced to overclock my CPU to rival Kaby lake upon release in January and to prevent me wanting to throw money at a new board and RAM for the luxury. I intend to move away from my beloved 4690k when intel makes triumphant strides with mainstream Hexcore i5 CPUs, a very viable possibility with Cannonlake on the horizon, I would then upgrade the board and RAM.
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler- Possible AIO liquid cooler to crank out an OC?
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 twin frozr- This is probably my main worry for my system, Pascal has yielded some promising results and similar on team red. It looks like the 970 will start to slack at 1080p in upcoming titles, so what is to be done?
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z9ZP-D3-This is currently fine and has no issues.
HDD 1: Seagate Desktop 1 TB HDD-This is currently fine and has no issues.
HDD 2: 500Gb HDD-This is currently fine and has no issues.
SSD: Kingston 120Gb SSD-This is currently fine and has no issues.
Case: Corsair carbide Spec 01- This is currently fine and has no issues.
PSU: Corsair VS 650w PSU- This unit is not ideal and needs to go, any recommendations?
Upgrading dilemma as it stands:
PSU: £100
Cooler for the 4690k: Currently have no idea what cooler would be sufficient and fit in a carbide spec 01 (£100)
GPU: £265 left plus money from the GTX 970 if I can sell it for say £100.
My main concern is that the 4690k is vastly becoming obsolete with Zen and Cannonlake looking to make quad core CPU's inferior. Am I investing too much money on minute changes to my system ignoring an aging CPU?
Conclusion:
CPU: 4690k cooler needed (Currently have a 212 evo, looking to OC to compete with Kaby)
PSU: VS 650w PSU- Need to upgrade to a more reliable unit.
GPU: Currently have a GTX 970, looking to maintain 60fps/1080p/High-Ultra settings.
£465 for all of it (not including selling used components).
