GTX960 Terrible low FPS after latest drivers update??

Hello community of TH. I wouldn't bother you if I haven't searched for a fix or workaround before coming here.

So far my experience with my new EVGA GTX960 has been great! I can run most of the AAA games with great decent FPS (Doom runs between 70-80 FPS steady and smooth). But after this Friday patch something went wrong with one game: Battle Field 4.

I used to have an old 5770 HD (ATI) and managed to run BF4 between 60 or 65 fps with all in middle and low settings and with low resolution and scale. So, the first time I tried BF4 with my 960 one month ago, I was amazed with the 80-90 fps with everything on middle high and native resolution.

Now, after patch, DOESN'T MATTER which resolution I use or settings, game won't pass 40-50 fps. Which is lower than the 5770 HD. You know what I mean? Something went wrong and changed from my Initial experience.

I have the same CPU (AMD Black Edition 3.4 GHZ Quadcore) and the same Ram 8GB. So my guess is that something went wrong with the drivers. What I have tried so far:

-Optimize game with GF Experience panel=low fps
-No optimized game and use different settings configured manually=same FPS every single time
-Uninstall drivers with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) latest version in safe mode, and re install drivers from zero with manual install and having everything up to date.
-Changing Physx from Auto to CPU and to GPU. Same result!

Another game affected was Overwatch (frame drops from 70-80 to 30 all the time). That was a single case because even high end rigs presented the same problem. For me was solved by closing Battlenet during game play. Runs like a charm.

For those who may say I may have a bottleneck. I would ask: why the bottleneck was not there with a lower end GPU such as 5770. And why I may have a bottle neck only after a driver update!!! I dind't saw any low fps with BF4 before the patch.

Well, as this is only happening with BF4 (so far I haven't tried my 200 games!! Only the more demanding ones, such as Splinter Cell Black List, Doom, Fall Out 4, Mirrors Edge Catalyst, Dying Light, Skyrim and The witcher 2 and 3, all running great, no frame drops so ever.

Sorry for long post but I wanted you to have all info, instead of forcing you to ask for it on the replies.

THANKS AND HAVE AN EXCELLENT WEEK!

Thanks. I will try that so I can screen shot two moments: A demanding game with nice FPS and BF4 with horrible low fps. Maybe that may help to find the problem. I post as soon as I install one of those.

Thanks for kind answer. I have the 375.95 driver which I guess is none of the ones you mentioned above, so only if you know about something faulty on this version....maybe I don't lose anything by trying the one you put a link of.

I saw an answer on the thread you quoted from Reddit: "[–]SantoschZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme 88 puntos hace 6 días*

I've gone from 120 FPS in BF1 to about 30 FPS...

Edit: Ok, 30 FPS in Firestrike aswell. Will try DDU now.

Edit2: DDU uninstall didn't help. Problem persists.

Edit3: Nvidia has released a Hotfix (375.95)"

So the clock problem persists on this latest 375.95 driver. I will try hotfix and if not helps, I will try the older version. Report back when done.

Ok I will try that then, because maybe until a new driver comes all this will be settled. I dont know if I have G-Sync Panel...let me check at my Control Panel to see if there is that option...thanks!

Jaja, you are right, I don't have that option even enabled at Nvidia Control Panel, so we can discard that. Also I'm trying the hot fix version of the driver which also says it fixes the same clock problem of the previous one. I guess Nvidia is having some issues with drivers now, just as AMD!

I'm making this little experiment without the Ge Force Experience. If everything goes well, I will try by installing GFE. If something goes wrong, I will uninstall and see what happens. I none of the above then I will try the old version. Then monitoring with Afterburn or something like that.

AMD doesn't have problematic drivers anymore. Their drivers have been fantastic since Mid-2015, with maybe a few minor issues here and there that have been fixed quickly enough. They continued 2016 with even better drivers. A new ''big'' update is heading towards the latest AMD drivers too now and no one is told what it is.

^ You can tell how livid people are in that community when people say AMD GPU's run hot and have bad drivers :p.

Hello. I'm sharing the screen shots of MSI Afterburner during 3 different game plays. Hope this help, or if not, kindly tell me exactly how can I share a wider dashboard image with useful info.

I didnt have time to screen shot when playing BF4, but what I can report is this: I did the DDU process to re install 375.95 hot fix version (which I guess solves the clock stuff, as they say here: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4260) but it was weird: as soon as BF4 opens the fps counting was high, as when I first installed the video card and the drivers of those times (80 to 90 fps, some times droping to 75 when playing in large maps with 64 people, but it was a really smooth experience, no frame drops what so ever), but when I saw some settings on ultra (lights, textures and one other) I changed them to medium, high and the low fps begun: 30-40 fps :( no matter what i changed next. Now Im trying with the 375.70 drivers to see how it goes. Thanks again!

So my latest question would be: When I tried the hot fix I did it after DDU, but windows said it couldn't install the driver properly. Is it possible that I should clean install 375.95 and then the hot fix? (sorry for noob question)

Also what I use as a "proof" that I was having excelent performance with BF4 and makes me believe I'm not bottlenecking is this thread: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/977133/geforce-drivers/announcing-hot-fix-driver-375-95/ which shows how many different high end cards are having similar or worst issues than mine with specific games, and not with all games...(in worst case scenario there are people having terrible performance with all games)

Latest UPDATE:
As the problem of low FPS could be solved in Overwatch by just closing Battlenet during gameplay, and now when trying to play also Mirror's Edge Catalyst I get terrible 30-40 fps, I can asume that something happened in my case against Frosbite engine....could it be possible? I'm using hotfix driver right now and eventhough BF4 seems more playable but with limited fps I guess there is no real solution for me but downgrade to the best functional driver for my case.....then waiting for Nvidia to realease something doesn't affect Frosbite games......

What do you guys think?

Yes same result. A friend of mine with a 980 have issues with games different than mine (issues that were not there before) and no matter which driver he installs, same issues remain. I read on a Nvidia forum that some people are suffering from a "disease" where once you install one of the latest drivers, no matter which driver you re install, they are getting very very low speeds (20fps or something like that)

Yeah I've read about it.

Can you try the following guide with MSI Afterburner overlay shown here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIdubmD3Tz0

Monitor your CPU temps and usage carefully, same goes for every other statistic. Have to rule out any other potential cause of the problem.

Play some games, focus on the temperatures. CPU above 80 degrees will indicate an alarm. Same for the GPU, any temp above 80-85 could also indicate an alarm. Otherwise focus on GPU usage/CPU usage.

Got it! I will try this during weekend and carefully note the results....if temperature issues maybe something weird is happening with the fans that was not happening before updates....I can also add Doom to the games having issues not experienced before patches....I'll post my updates here soon! Thanks and have an excellent weekend dude!

Hi guys. Just want to update better news on the issue: Nvidia released the 376.09 driver just today. I already installed it and my normal FPS are back!! I can run BF4 with 70-80 fps again! It still feels weird for some moments, some frame drops but nothing umplayable (could be better though). Also Doom is again more playable than before, still need to twek some stuff to see if I can get better FPS....thanks for your kind help though!
