Are PCIe wi-fi adapters much more reliable than USB wi-fi adapters?

I don't have the luxury right now of running an ethernet cable to my computer. My computer is running Windows 10 64-bit built for gaming, so it's plenty fast. I've tried a couple USB wi-fi adapters. The first one was a cheap Asus nano charger and was slow and unreliable, so I exchanged it for an Asus USB-AC68, and the new one is quite fast, but it's unreliable and caused frequent computer crashes when it was plugged in to USB. For both, I had to repeatedly attempt to connect until it actually connected, and would frequently lose connection. The wi-fi router has a strong signal, and my phone works perfectly stable on wi-fi from anywhere in the house.

Are PCIe wi-fi adapters much more stable? I was happy with the speeds of the Asus USB-AC68, but not thrilled with the computer crashes or connection drops, and I'm getting tired of having to reach for my cellphone just to get on wi-fi. Are there any suggestions for wi-fi adapters?

The major computer store out here has a very limited selection. There was an Asus PCIe card with an extention cable and 4-antenna magnetic base, but it costs a lot and I've had bad experiences with the Asus USB adapters. Since the selection is limited, would I be better of just getting a $20 TP-Link PCIe wi-fi card?

PCIe wifi adapters are most often faster then USB, from what i know i think USB adapters are more known to disconnecting and being more reliable. If i am not mistaken, Pcie cards should be more reliable and should not disconnect as many times as the USB.

With Wifi PCI-E cards you dont have to worry if your computer doesnt connect or crashes. The problem with USB wifi cards is that computers may often not recognize/register that a USB has been plugged in which might be the issue on why you keep reconnecting for wifi. Get a Wifi PCI-E which can hit those high speeds from your router and you're good to go.
