Building or Buying a new PC

So I am thinking of getting a new PC. I don't want to really spend past £1,000 if I can help it but will if needed. I don't have much of an idea how to build a PC so I used the Tom's Hardware best builds contest for help. I found one of the winners and added an OS: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/YsRgQV

That's my only idea so far as it seems good for a good price. However, I can't be sure. I want something that's gonna last me a few years, more rather than less if possible. If there's a great PC out there ready made to be bought that can handle VR, last a while, have high graphics and speed then please send me a link or give your opinions. Any and all advice is good. Buy a ready built PC or build one myself? How do I build a PC if I take that route? Maybe some parts of my current PC are okay and I can upgrade around it if I knew how?

I'd like something (for example) that could run Gears of War 4 on high quality, be quick (probably use an SSD for OS), good processing so I'm not getting any rubber banding or the likes on things like Overwatch and for MMO's to run good would also be good.

If the price is past £1,000 but can maybe be paid for monthly, or I can prepare to buy in the future then that is also fine. Any and all help is appreciated. Any questions then just ask away.

Solution
@Hellfire, the Gamerock cooler runs cooler than the FTW, and costs about $80 less, much better value imo.
The Be Quiet! Pure rock also runs cooler and quieter than the 212 Evo while costing less.

What would be the best way to show some specs? I've tried putting a DxDiag below, dunno if that's enough?

The build you have chosen is meant for overclocking. Judging by your account, I am not too sure whether you are proficient with that. In case you dont intend to overclock, this should be a good alternate build.

You don't need a new rig at all, all you're in need of is a graphics card upgrade,an SSD and perhaps a new power supply, the CPU performs pretty much on par with a 6700k, and with overclocking it'll last even longer.
I'll need to know the model of your PSU, what cooler you have and how much RAM you have.

Now that you specified the specs, completely agree. All you need is a good video card along with another 8gb of ram and a decent psu(not sure which one you have, that detail is missing).

Where do I find out those things? And any recommendations from either of you in terms of GPU, RAM and SSD etc? Or should I use the ones in the spec Hellfire posted? And if I go about getting these parts, is there a good place to see how I install them? You'd be correct about overclocking btw as I have no idea about overclocking.

1. Look in PC Info, just search it into your taskbar and see how many GB of memory you have.
2. look on the power supply unit and tell us what the name or model is.
3. You'll just need to pull out the graphics card and plug the new one in with power connectors pretty much. ;)
If you get a new power supply you need to redo the cabling though.

> You already have an unlocked cpu which you can overclocok and get a lot of extra performance if you can learn how to do so. There are innumerable videos and tutorials online that topic. You need to do some research on that, in case you are interested.

> Download and install this... https://www.piriform.com/speccy
Once you have done that, launch the application. It will show you the details of all your hardwares. Go to the RAM section, scroll down to SPD and expand the Slot details. It will have your RAM details with manufacturer and frequency. If its 1x8 then get another stick of the same RAM, or if its 2x4 then get another pair of the same.

> For the power supply, unfortunately that doesnt communicate with your computer, hence you have to figure it out physically. Either open the cabinet and check inside or look out for a sticker on the back of the unit. If its a good unit then you can retain it, or else it would be better of you pair a good brand new psu(suggested below) with a new card. This should help you http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Suggestion for new parts.

I'd get this, more than enough wattage, and the Gamerock is one of the best coolers on the market.

Okay, my RAM specs in that Speccy thing are:

Type DDR3
Size 8192 MBytes
Manufacturer Kingston
Max Bandwidth PC3-12800 (800 MHz)
Part Number 9905471-069.A00LF
Serial Number 623187830
Week/year 29 / 14

As for my power supply. It's 450W Corsair. Dunno more than that? Can get more if needed but looks like I'm getting a new one anyway? I definitely need a new CPU too if you have any recommendations as the CPU isn't perfectly stuck onto the motherboard. The paste is a bit grimy now too and since the black corner bits snapped, I need to get a new one.

And which power supply should I choose and why out of both you recommended. And what's the difference between the GPU's. SSD is the same for you both so I will get that one and a new OS cus this one isn't valid. If you can recommend an external hard drive for backups too that would be great. 1tb should be enough? Anything else you want to know? And how do I install an SSD and Power Supply. I can prob figure out OS and external hard drive just fine but dunno how to do those two things. GPU I can do too. And how do I install a new CPU since this needs a new one.

For the CPU issue I actually have another thread and that's how I learned about it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3194663/high-cpu-gpu.html

If I take another 24 hours or so to answer, it's because I work early and finish late so may not have time to answer these questions unless I get time at work.

Ok...so...for ram u need another one of that stick.
For psu also, going though the other thread discussion, its better you buy the new one suggested.

Now, based on the observations in the other thread, the most important thing is you reapply thermal and reseat the cpu and get a better cooler(suggestions below). Also OC is still applicable and quire adept for the cooler suggested below.

Based on what i could infer from all of these discussions, these would be your best part pick.

Get the thermal paste and reseat your cpu, you dont need a new cpu.
The SSD is installed just like normal HDD and the psu is installed just like the one you have currently. The recommendations above should suffice, and both 550w and 650 should be enough, though 650w should give you more leverage. Just make sure you connect the 8+2 or 6+4 connectors properly.
For external HDD this should be a good choice... https://www.amazon.co.uk/ADATA-Triple-Layer-Anti-Shock-...

@Hellfire, the Gamerock cooler runs cooler than the FTW, and costs about $80 less, much better value imo.
The Be Quiet! Pure rock also runs cooler and quieter than the 212 Evo while costing less.

Solution

Source and links please for the cooler. Also the Palit video cards are known to be of poor quality, and the FTW 1080 is much more renowned for its quality.

Well...agreed they have some good offerings but a lot people do not trust them for their chinese background... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palit_Microsystems
The chinese parts are not so renowned.
As far as the cooler is concerned, it is a good unit that you have linked. Not sure why you call them Gamerock as Bequite is a more popular term in pc industry.
Cooler Master units are equally good though.

For OP, btwn, if you want the fastest 1080 card, then you can look for the Zotac AMP version. Some spec. comparisons here... http://thepcenthusiast.com/all-geforce-gtx-1080-compared-asus-evga-gigabyte-msi-zotac/

Nonono, calling Be Quiet! by their proper name, Gamerock is the name of the graphics card itself, and the cooler that Palit uses on there.
Saying that the graphics card cooler is top notch.
The 'fastest' 1080 would be the amp extreme or the highest OC strix model, but both are insanely overpriced for the little additional performance they offer which can be achieved easily through a light OC anyway.
In addition GPU boost 3.0 will boost most cards up to 1900 easily out of the box.

I can probably figure out how to install the SSD and Power supply using online guides then. You've both been a great help. I'll check what else the power supply says when i get home from work.

I also need to know that all of these things will fit in my case?: http://www.ebuyer.com/328698-nzxt-phantom-410-white-case-ca-ph410-w1?mkwid=sVZJ5ryEo_dm&pcrid=51482418059&pkw=&pmt=&gclid=CN32wOr4vtACFVVuGwodxigGsg

And any reccomend actions on where j buy the second stick of RAM you reccomend? And any other things I should note about installing?

I can't decide who to give best answer to yet but I'll give it to whoever of you have the spec I choose I think. I'll see how it goes. Thank you both though, you've both been an amazing help!

Its a ATX case, there should be plenty of room in there.
For the RAM, I think you are running very low frequency(800mhz) ram. My suggestion would be to go for a higher frequency new set of 16gb altogether. We can suggest you once you give us the board make/model from Speccy. We know its a Asus Z97, but we dont know the variant. I think most of those z97 can handle upto 3200mhz.
This should be compatible with your board... https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zQFPxr/gskill-memory-f32133c11d16gxl

Okay, I'll look for the power supply details and ram variant when I get home later.

Another quick question, my FPS on games doesn't seem to go past 70 ever. Is this the limit of the monitor or due to my system. If it's the monitor, do you have any more recommendations. And could I have 2 monitors of different makes attracted to one system and not suffer a performance loss?
