Hi all,
I'm trying to build a simple gaming rig for my little brother and need help with picking parts. He doesnt haven't have a budget idea yet but lets say around $400-$500. Now $150 of that is going to me because he's decided to buy my old gtx 770(by old I mean like 2 years old) since I'm going to upgrade to a msi gtx 1070 soon. So that leaves potential $250/350 budget for him.

So please tell me, what parts should he get for this budget?

Let me know!!

You tell your lil' bro that RX470 is a lot better than a GTX 770 at around the same price.
BTW, this build will work just fine with both of the GPU's.

I am very sorry, you are not the right solution to pick. And to answer your thing about the gtx 770, its a gigabyte triforce version. Still in very good condition. Plus the $150 isn't set in stone. If hes serious and really wants to build this I'll let him take for 100. But like I said, he doesn't have strong idea yet, so its very flexible. I just want him to start out good. And in my opinion giving him this 2 year old card isn't bad, it runs everything very well still.

You are more or less a good solution, I just miss clicked. And again my little brother doesn't know much. Like I said, if he gets serious I am knocking down the price for him, but I'd like to give him this gigabyte gtx 770.

1) Still in very good condition, and runs fine
2) Easier for him to recieve since I have the box and stuff
and 3) I selfishly want to sell it to him since I want to put it towards a msi 1070

So there you go

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Astro RAM : "How do you undo a best solution"

So how do ask a mod for help??

Why steer your little bro to such an old card for more money? The 1050 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487296 is more powerful, less expensive, has more features and is just a much better card than the 770. If he is going to build his first rig I would want him to start with today's hardware and not something 3 generations back. But do him a favor and sell him the 770 for only $100. When for $20 more he could have a much better card. I think the $120 should go to a retailer. Admirable trying to help. Just not in the best position imo. For $80. That's helping him out. For any more, that's only helping you.

The cpu? The i3 6100. Another $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=2MN-0004-00002&cm_re=i3_6100-_-2MN-0004-00002-_-Product

Motherboard? Another $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132571&cm_re=scoket_1151_motherboard-_-13-132-571-_-Product as long as you help him with that rebate after he buys it.

RAM Less than $50 Use promo code 1121BFWK95

Do you have an extra case? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811853002&cm_re=mid_tower_case-_-11-853-002-_-Product can be had for less than $40

PSU? less than $30 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N83U90876&cm_re=EVGA_400W-_-17-438-038-_-Product

HDD Less than $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840&cm_re=Seagate_1TB-_-22-148-840-_-Product

Wait a minute.

I selfishly want to sell it to him since I want to put it towards a msi 1070

And you're advertising what's only thinly veiled :pfff: . Least you're an honest big bro.

Thanks friend, I let him know if wants to spend an extra 20 bucks or not for a different gpu. But this seems like a solid build I look more into it

@aquielisunari your build isn't terribad but

-That PSU is awful
-GTX 1050 < GTX 770. The 1050 TI benches 20% worse than the 770 according to UBM. While you have the right idea with next gen stuff the 770 would actually be better in the end.

Let's see

http://hwbench.com/vgas/geforce-gtx-1050-ti-vs-geforce-gtx-770

The 770 is a 2GB card. The 1050ti is a 4GB card. Games these days easily exceed 2GB VRAM. There is a more expensive 4GB 770. The OP didn't mention the VRAM amount.

The 1050Ti uses less power

http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2665-gtx-770-in-2016-benchmark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He9lb-ogF1o the 1050 outperforms with BF1, Doom, Black Ops 3 and well take a look at the results. All games in that test except 1 where the FPS difference was so very small. Sure, the 470 starting at $179 is a lot more money, newer and will outperform the 1050. That's not surprising.

I agree that is not that great. I don't agree its awful for this build. It is a LOT more than what the user will asking of it. I was trying to spend as little as possible. I didn't go generic. EVGA will be there if anything happens within the next 3 years which I doubt will be needed. If I was asked about a 1060 I would not offer that. The 1050ti gets all of it's power from the PCIe slot. Just trying to say it is just a 75W card that won't really challenge that PSU at all. YEs, the PCIe slot gets its power from the PSU. Not my point. It's a low power card. While a higher end PSU would be needed if upgrades took place this is not a POWER HUNGRY build that I put together. It's a starter build. Can it only get better? Yes. Did I give "little bro" a power cushion realizing that PSU isn't the supernova Gold? Yes. That 1050 only needs a 300W PSU. I don't feel that I offered a build sure to break down. It's a starter build.
