Playstation Network speed cap?

I have a 300/20 connection now. The problem is when I download a game or update, I'm limited to 100mbps. But, if I download 3 games at once, they all download at 100mbps. It seems to be a load balancing thing. This is not ok due to it being very rare that I would download 3 games at once, but instead I would prefer the 1 game to download at 300mbps. I have an open NAT type, static IP, and am using Google DNS servers. I have a feeling there is a software filter limiting bandwidth on a single download. Any info or suggestions?

Solution
If I recall correctly, this is something to do with limiting download speed while not in rest mode. You should notice faster downloads when the system is in rest mode, rather than simply left on.

I haven't thought about that. How can a monitor the bandwidth being used while in rest mode? Also, that's stupid I would have to turn it off essentially to get faster speeds, when I just want to download it and then play it as soon at its done. Is there a way around this?

There is not a workaround I am aware of.

Well that's annoying. I suppose it could be fixed with a future update (I hope). From what I've seen XBOX 1 doesn't have this issue. There are no bottlenecks in my network, I even have a WD SSHD 4TB 3.5" drive in my PS4. It's quite annoying not being able to fully utilize the speed I pay for. Life for nerds can be tough haha

I agree that it is very weird that it's capped like that. PSN must have it set this way. I suppose there is nothing I can do about it.

as i recall... the PS4 has a gigabit nic, right? and... the self speed test it does is an average between your speed and the sony server speed...

I've NEVER seen my downloads get over 100Mbps, though i don't have the option for more than 100Mbps, i do get 130Mbps and my ISP has been trying to charge me more because of it for the past couple years. Though... that's off topic...

I think it is a QOS thing for their servers honestly, Sony has had some network issues in the past due to high draw demands, so this time it would make sense for them to put limiters in place to evenly distribute content for everyone. Even if that means you only can download at 100Mbps per item, cuz... aren't all those files shared anyways?... like a master copy we all copy from?

Gratz on 300Mbps man! sure would love to have that here in Oregon!

Thanks! I was so excited when I found out I could pay a 200 dollar construction fee and an extra 30 a month for the 300mbps instead of the 100. I don't want to say I'm regretting it, but the main purpose was so I could get home from work, or whatever, and download a 9GB game update in no time on the ps4. I have had a very hard time seeing that speed, a lot of servers won't allow me to have that much bandwidth. Now on the other hand, steam updates on my PC see the full 300 (it actually gets up to 330mbps and 25 upload). Anyways I think I'll keep the 300 and pray everyone else gets it together so I can use what I paid dearly for. :kaola:

HAHA, well, good luck with that, and just as a tip, if you're sharing that internet with others in the house, and you download a game on steam at the max speed, you just pretty much locked everyone out until your download finishes... i recommend limiting steam to two thirds or three quarters of what your potential is, to leave some space for the rest of your home network. (avoids headaches)

Yeah I have good QOS settings. Even if I used 300 it still leaves 10-30mbps for the other devices at that moment. I'm going to see about getting faster upload speed. I have a PLEX media server and 25 mbps is only good for maybe 1 to 2 streams.

QOS through what device?
I built my own router and gotta say, the best QOS system is that upheld by each computers restrictions setup individually, the QOS engine on Smoothwall is too strict on some things, and lax on others... and its supposedly a damn good system... well, out of PFSense and the other one... PortWall?... Smoothwall Express 3.0 was the only one that would install, setup, AND work.

so color me impressed that you got a QOS to actually work and not strangle your home network... though it could be due to the 300Mbps and 25Mbps speeds... i'm only able to do 100Mbps and 5Mbps... the struggle is real when streaming, or uploading to Youtube.

The QOS is the type that came with the router. Asus RT-87U. I did have some trouble with it at first, but I can set each device priority by MAC address, and limit bandwidth on certain devices like my son's amazon tablet. I set the ps4 and my cell phone as a static IP and use Google DNS. I also used port forwarding on the ps4 for certain PSN and call of duty ports to achieve an open NAT type. Let's just say it works absolutely amazing. The WiFi speed on my phone I have seen is 310/25. The router is the best! 802.11AC

ah yeah, the ability to limit by device isn't a common feature, and i wish i had that feature so much! I have an ASUS RT-N65U and while it does have a great many features, it restricted my server from being accessed, even though the ports were forwarded and UPNP was enabled... that was the final straw, i later then built my router.

I didn't even know had had it until I dove into the settings after being fed up with the QOS. Once I found it, it was like Christmas morning. It has traditional and adaptive QOS options(learn as you go).

from experience, QOS is just a way to aid a weaker cpu on a router to better handle internet requests, i have a 3Ghz cpu in my router, with 8GB ram, it has no need for QOS, it does it just fine, it just... you know, basically forces everyone out of the way when a high traffic request is made.

Using SKFU proxy got around the issue of slow download speeds on the ps4. It allows me to download at 300mbps. But it only goes for 10 minutes before it slows back down to regular. Anyone have a fix for this?

sorry bro, the act of enabling and configuring simplistic QOS engines is the limitation of my ability, i have no clue what you said there with that Proxy deal, but my guess would be you may get a significant benefit from using an Old computer as a high powered Over Powered router, i suggest Smoothwall.org, pick the yellow option and read up, their site is old but the data from the source forge is new, within the last couple months new, i'm running Smoothwall Express 3.1 Update 8 and haven't needed much outside of the headache to install it, which you should do on a USB device, not from CD-ROM it doesn't like CD-ROM installation.

literally though, an 8 year old laptop would be an epic router!
