What should I upgrade first?

I am running athlon x4 760k and a gtx 960. I am thinking about upgrading both of them, one at a time. My plans are go from 760k -> i5 6600k or 960 to 1060. If I get a deal during the black Friday, I will get both of them. If I do not , I still would love to upgrade one of them. Which of them should I go first after. (Also by CPU upgrade I mean CPU+mobo+ddr4) Thanks

I agree completely with Lucas, your 760k is limiting your overall performance and once you get an i5 in place, the GTX 960 will be able to shine a little brighter. After the i5 upgrade, save some money and jump on the 1060 or 1070 and you'll be set.

I'd definitely upgrade the CPU first because the i5 6600k is alot better than the athlon; meanwhile the 1060 is better than the 960, the 960 isn't even that bad to begin with. So the 960 is bottlenecked because of your CPU. If you get the i5 6600k you'll be able to record and play games at 30+ fps or 60+ fps on most games if you just play games.

Also what ram do you have? Btw the mobo DOES NOT increase the fps or performance of the PC, it just sets whatever limits of each part that can be taken in. EXAMPLE: A mobo with only sata 1 will not allow you to use a SSD (which requires SATA 3). EXAMPLE #2: If you mobo says it runs 1600 ddr3 that means that only ddr3 ram will work and only 1600mhz of whatever the ram is rated will actually work.

Well I am looking into the ASUS z170 pro gaming mobo, which would allow me to overclock the i5. BTW I dont think skylake supports ddr3, I HAVE to get ddr4.

I was using the ddr3 situation as an example. You can go with whatever you want to.

I have read that z170 is a better chip for i5 6xxx series + If I ever want to OC.
