i want to play old and current and future games on ultra settings at 60+fps i can afford up to $220 im also going to upgrade to a 1080p monitor sometime next year

Very little. That's the length of the GTX 1060 PCB. Many brands make their coolers longer than the PCB, but this isn't necessary seeing how much more efficient Pascal is.

On something like an R9 Fury, there is a big difference. The R9 Nano is basically a mini R9 Fury but it thermal throttles due to its small cooler. As stated above, Pascal is very efficient and doesn't make much heat at all. These large coolers are no longer necessary.
