Is this the correct optical drive to install windows 10? (Apologies for the newbie question)

Yes it`s the right drive for most of the disk formats, or blank medium you can buy to read and write data too Tax.

Though the drive will not read Blu ray discs, so if you have any intention of using the drive to watch films on blu ray ones.
Then you may want to look at a drive that has blu ray support as well as all the other medium formats of discs for reading or writing too.

Apart from the missing blu ray part it`s ok though.
