I've been finding forums tutorials on how to overclock cpu and ram but they are a bit confusing. Is there any real simple way of doing this that a non experience overclocker can do?
Yeah, best to have then running in sync with each other. OCing everything will bring you best performance than pushing every single part to it's limits.
It depends on make and model of all parts concerned.
First thing is to provide better than stock cooling. Basic OC would be to raise CPU multiplier where possible and adjust voltage as needed.
There's no universal formula and differences may also go as fine as particular part used even if it's designation is same as other ones.

Overclocking is really a difficult thing to do but im still going for it. One question though, do i need to overclock my cpu if i buy a 2300mhz ddr4 ram?
Just what do you want to overclock ?? Not everything is possible to OC to any significant degree. Faster RAM can play a role in OC but is not entirely dependent on it. It's a good idea OC or not.

I have read in some forums that when running a highspeed ram such as 2300mhz ddr4 and above will need the cpu to be overclocked because errors will occur if not. So is this true?

At first we need to know which CPU you want to overclock.
There are differences between different architectures. Does it use a FSB, Ht Link or Baseclock? Is the CPU actually unlocked? What about your motherboard and cooling?
