Hi,i am getting my first workstation(DIY) for video editing(after effect) and some heavy multitasking.
Currently in dillema choosing between 2 processor:

a)xeon E5 2670 (2.6G/3.3G)(8c/16t) 95$ used model -12k passmark
b)xeon E5 2695v2 (2.4G/3.2G)(12c/24t) 230$ used model -15k passmark

I had already brought the mobo :
Supermicro X9DRW-3LN4F+ Dual socket LGA 2011 (200$ used model)
24*8GB 1333Mhz ddr3 ECC Ram (192GB for 365$)

so my option was:
single 2670 or single 2695v2 or dual 2670 or dual 2695v2
which will serve me best ?

Currently using laptop with i7 3610qm processor,How significant the performance difference is?

If you purchased 24 sticks of RAM, then you would have to populate both sockets to take advantage of them. I am of the opinion that clock speed usually wins over higher core count because MOST software doesn't scale beyond 10 - 20 cores. With 192 GB RAM, you may benefit by setting up a 32 - 64GB RAM disk and using that for intermediate files. You should benchmark your software with hyperthreading enabled and disabled (usually a BIOS option).
