I want to take out my 1 Tb hard drive from the WD enclosure and then insert a 500 GB seagate hard drive but will it still work with a Seagate Hard Drive within a WD enclosure

Solution
I wouldn't advise you to do so. The enclosure of WD Elements is not designed to work with other drives or to be opened for a drive replacement.

Hi there Aaron_2468,

I believe it may be a better idea to grab some third party enclosure for your drive.

Why would you like to take your WD drive out of the enclosure? Are you facing some issues with it? What is the model of the drive?

Keep in mind that if you take the drive out of the enclosure:
- You will void the warranty.
- The drive inside may have proprietary connectors. You may not be able to attach the drive internally through SATA.
- The device could be hardware encrypted. You will not be able to access the data stored on the drive, once you take it out of the enclosure.

Cheers,
D_Know_WD :)

I am taking out the drive due to me wanting to use it in a pc, and i don't want to waste the enclosure, the model of the enclosure is a WD Elements External Hard Drive.

Would you reckon that the seagate hard drive will fit and work in the WD enclosure
