hi all

first time poster on here.

so while using my laptop my little one decided he wants to slap the front of it so he did that amd the laptop went off. after trying to switch on it would only boot to bios

having searched around i managed to boot from usb after changing thr options within bios and then going into diskpart i was unable to see my hdd, which led me to believe my hdd was finished.

so o ordered abrand new western digital bdd and installed it, the hdd was now being recognised but i was inable to install anything on it as it said windows is unable to install on this partition

diskpart wont let me format or clean and gives an i\o error but it will let me select it.

can anyone advise what maybe the issue? is my mobo fried?

Well, it is really strange that the drive is not recognized by BIOS, but is is recognized by diskpart.
Yeah, it is normal. The drive actually has less than 750 GB due to different measurement standards: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=TpYFLk

As for the port/cables/etc. , we can't really know which one is faulty or broken. I think that the repair shop is the way to go. Otherwise, you can take a look at some video tutorials about the same model. (don't know if there are any)

Hi there jackiekhan,

Welcome to the community. :)

That is really unpleasant. I/O(input/output) error, in most cases, is caused by faulty HDD or connection. As in your case, the HDD is most probably fine, then I believe there's something wrong with the SATA port or the cables.
In that case, I think that it would be nice to contact a repair shop.

Is the drive recognized by BIOS as having it's full capacity?

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
D_Know_WD :)
