Hi. This is my first build-in-progress, but I think I'm getting close to what I need. I am a trader with a 3 monitor display set up. I need to be able to sustain continuous heavy multi-tasking. In addition I will be frequently utilizing video/photo-editing software.

Based on my research I believe I will be good with integrated graphics from the motherboard/cpu. The motherboard that I've chosen supports 3 monitors as well.

Please give feedback. Willing to make changes.

Solution
It's not a bad build at all. Since you need to multi-task, the i7 should do you well. You do realize that you will need monitors with different cables, correct? They do make USB 3.0 converters as well (had a USB to HDMI before). What can of connectors on your monitor do you have? The on-board graphic chip should do just fine.

To take advantage of faster editing, I would recommend an NVIDIA card with some CUDA cores. What software are you going to use?

Solution
looks solid.
would swap the PSU though, when using integrated graphics you don't need so many watts but maybe a bit better quality
also I wouldn't use a 212 Evo when using the integrated graphics

if you got some cash available, I'd step up a notch and get a 6800k+x99 board and maybe a 1050 as dedicated graphics card.

Thanks for the feedback. I currently have 3 Sceptre monitors connected to a shitty dell inspiron via 1 VGA and 2 VGA-USB converter dongles... seems to be working just fine with the laptop so I would have assumed it would work with this motherboard as well. I'm not closed off to getting new connectors though, in the grand scheme of the build that is rather inexpensive.

As far as video-editing software I would like to use final cut pro (which is what I'm used to) but that is only for iOS. I might consider a cross-over program to run iOS and do my photo/video editing on that. Additionally I will be using programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator frequently.

I see.. since I will be relying on the integrated graphics I will be working the cpu harder and need better cooling. Thank you for that suggestion. I think I'm more the good with the i7 6700k. if I went with the x99 mobo I would have to get a GPU as well to support my 3 monitor display, and it would also kill my budget. The current z170-a mobo I've chosen can support up to 3 monitors on integrated graphics.

My plan was to have the programs installed on my SSD drive... the OS and any of the heavy programs that I use will go on the SSD and the rest of my lighter data will go on the HDD.

And that's exactly what I do. I have MS office, Adobe, and Windows (with a few light programs) on my 500GB. On my TB hard drive I keep all the other software and documents and files. Works wonders for me.

I know I'm making the right choice with the i7 6700k CPU, and SSD/HDD storage... you can't really go too wrong with PSU and the case... I'm really just wanting to make sure I'm making the right choice with the mobo and graphics card situation. I can't seem to find a better mobo with more reliable integrated graphics that supports 3 monitors on its own so I think I'm making the right choice so long as the integrated graphics will be sufficient for the workload. If you were to suggest a graphics card what would you suggest...?

In modern CPUs, the graphics are built into the CPU chip set itself now. North and south bridge are kind of a thing of the past.

Getting a 1050 Ti 4GB or 1060 3GB should be good. If you are not playing games, then these will boost your editing performance.

Would it be reasonable to say that I could get the build without the GPU and then upgrade it if I find it to be necessary? As a newbie I really can't even speak on what the performance of such parts feels like. If I went with the integrated graphics what might I notice whilst editing/rendering that will make me want to upgrade the GPU? Sluggishness and lag?

Not really since most of the time, editing depends on RAM and CPU. I would recommend that you wait and stick with eh i7-6700. You should be able to edit just fine. Don't expect stuff to finish it seconds, but it should not take hours as well.

Easy enough to just buy a GPU down the line and plug it in I suppose eh?

Very easy. I got my 1060 two months after I built it because I was waiting for the price to go down. But I was able to use my computer with no problem. Did some editing, and save the file on my SSD. It was faster of course. Then I copied it to my hard drive which took seconds.

All-the-while before you got your 1060 you were running on integrated?

I agree I think I'll be good.... especially since my stock dell inspiron laptop from maybe 2010 is handling my 3 display set up just fine. That gives me great confidence lol. I have a feeling this build will be able to handle much more than I'll need it to. As long as I don't find myself ready to throw it at a wall (which I frequently find myself doing with my macbook pro) I'll be beyond happy.
