Hi folks

So i recently got myself a new monitor, LG 29UM68-P - 29" IPS LED Monitor - 21:9, and i noticed a significant performance drop when i play certain high demanding games. Now it makes sense, wider screen means system needs to fill more pixels, so i decided to upgrade starting with a graphics card. I got my eye on ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB ROG STRIX, but looking in to it some more I noticed I could potentially run in to some issues and if my system is at all compatible.

Here is my set up:
asus h97m-e motherboard
intel core i5 4690 3.50GHz
Kingston HX316C10FR/8
Palit GeForce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5, PCI Express 3.0, 980MHz-1033MHz, 6008MHz
Corsair Vs450 75-001835 450w PSU

Will my system support above graphics card and will i see any performance drawbacks?
Or should I wait with GPU and start with something else and what would that be?

Any input will be greatly appreciated, thanks

Solution
In that case, a GTX 1060 should be fine. Again, I wouldn't recommend spending more than $300 on a card. That ASUS is just for the brand and triple fans which is not really need.
That 6GB GPU would be just fine. You will definitely notice improvements. however, I do not think you should spend more than $275 on the 1060, especially when the reference card is $299. It's because it is a triple-fan, which is not really necessary. I have a EVGA SC GTX 1060 6GB and it does just fine. It's a single fan, and even when I play GTA V on max settings in 1080p, I hear no noise. You also may want to consider a 1070 (~$400) to go into 1440p to get a better resolution as well. What is the native/max resolution for that monitor that you know of?

Thats because your new screen is 2k, so your graphics card is going to be working 2x as harder and give you 1/2 the fps that you had at normal 1080p. Your system is compatible, and the GTX 1060 will definitely perform better, but you won't be able to get 60 fps at 2k unless you turn down some settings.

Thank you for your response.
Didn't think this monitor will be this demanding. Should I consider getting a 1070 if I want to get 60fps at full settings out of it?

Definitely next on my list for upgrades as I plan to stick a few extra fans in my case.
Thank you for your input

Max I believe it's 2560x1080.
And thanks for your answer
