Hi, so I am planning on doing some gameplays and
I was wondering how much a 1080p 60fps 1 hour recordings would take,
thing is, I am between buying a 480gb ssd or a 1tb hdd
for now only for recording, I was leaning towards the ssd
since its faster and I could use it later for other purposes
but I don't really know how much storage the recording would take
so I can't decide which should I buy.
any help will be welcome, thanks o/

Note¹: apparently I didn't explain correctly, so sorry for that, the system, apps and games will be in a separate drive a Intel 600p 512GB SSD M.2., right now I am between a ssd or a hdd only for the videos, I was only thinking about future using the ssd
in case I don't want to make videos anymore.
also worth noting I won't be using a capture card,
and the record applications will either be Shadowplay or Action!.

Well, if you can get both, then do that. Then save the file on the SSD and transfer it over the hard drive. But it depends on the video and if there are effects in it. My Elgato gave me a 12GB file for an hour of gameplay in Mafia 3. But I have the highest settings, and then I render it and edit to make it smaller.

Again, it depends, but typically expect no more than 8GB

that's the thing, I can't get both, just one of them, the ssd or the hdd, I was worried cause I read somewhere that a raw 1080p would be 8gb per minute lol so I did the math 8*60= 480 and I thought I might not have space in the ssd for a 1 hour long video at 1080p 60fps. but if its less than that, I might get the ssd. I was just asking cause I searched and found nothing so I wanted to make sure.

also I don't plan on using a capture card.

What software are you planning to use?

Raw it'll be about 2.5 tb. But you'll be using . . . . OBS/Xsplit/shasowplay?
Something with a H.264 which will get your 1080p/60fps recording at 12 gigs . . . ish
Depending on your settings.

If you just plan on streaming, it shouldn't be that bad. I did a 90-min recording of Tomb Raider using NVIDIA and it was around 25GB. But 8gb/min sounds a bit off. If you don't mind waiting a few extra minutes to render on a 1TB i would go for it. SSD is faster, but as you know, it may not be enough space (Considering windows takes up 20GB). I would get the 1TB, then add the SSD in the future. You lose some precious minutes in rendering, but at least you got the space.

the system and the games won't be on this drive, they will be on a intel 600p 512gb ssd m.2. like I said in the original post this one right now is literally only for the videos.

Probably Shadowplay since I am getting a GTX 1070 with the new build if not I might use Action! since I already tested it and its pretty faster than OBS, and 12gigs...ish per minute?
