Full disclosure, I'm cross posting between here and androidcentral, in hopes of getting some solid opinions quickly, considering this time of year is kind of a deal/buying frenzy.

Long story short, we donate to a family charity and help fulfill christmas lists for kids in struggling families.

The budget per older child is about $120 to $150. (2DS and such can normally be afforded)

Amazon has the new Fire HD 8 on sale for Black Friday, and that's being considered.
But I did some extra looking around and found a ton of mixed-review pure-android devices for 150 and under.

For kids in middle school (11-13) having an *obviously* cheap product can be kind of embarrassing, and tablets are actually a pretty common request this year... So I was hoping to maybe get some insight or recommendations from people who are 'in the know'.

Thanks guys.

Hi there.

For the price range the tablets are obviously not going to be super high quality. I found something like this that would be a good option in your budget. The type of tablet you want to purchase also depends on what they would like to do. Another option of the top of my head would be the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7 inch. Now if you can expand your budget to $200 you could purchase the nvidia tablet which has amazing features and capabilities.

I bought a new in box ZTE Trek II tablet off ebay for $70. It's a great tablet -- Android 6.0, 2 GB of RAM, 8 inch screen that has decent resolution. I love this tablet. Those are better specs than the Samsung Galaxy Tab A. Plus that extra inch is nicer than 7 inch -- more screen real estate for movies and games.

I'd stay away from Kindle tablets as it's not a real Android tablet. I'd stick with name brands like Samsung, Lenovo, ZTE, Dell, HP, etc.. Some of the no name branded ones are terrible.
