New GPU or completely new build?

Hey everyone!
Before I start, my current system:
- Alienware Aurora 2009 edition case (Yes, prebuilt, I was young).
- ATI Radeon HD5870 1GB DDR5 GPU
- Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz CPU (liquid cooled, no OC). Note: Intel Extreme Tuning Utility says ''Turbo Overclockable: False''.
- 4x2GB Hynix 1333MHz RAM, 1x1GB Kingston 1333MHz RAM
OS: Windows 10 64bit
- 650W PSU
- Alienware 04VWF2 Motherboard (Version A02, BIOS version is A08).

Now, this set up has been running amazing for the past 6 years (bought in 2010), where I was still able to run BF4 on high/ultra. I recently bought BF1 and my FPS is horrible but understandable: Minimum requirement is a 2GB GPU and the 5870 is a 1GB GPU.
I have a few questions now:
1. Can I OC my CPU to 3.8-4.2 GHz? Someone said to me it's not possible/dangerous if I OC it due to liquid cooling.
2. Is my current CPU still OK to handle a RX460 4GB or an RX470? If not, would OCing my CPU be adviseable or just buy a whole new CPU?
3. What *new* GPU is most suited for use with my old setup?

As you can see, I'd love to upgrade but I'm quite on a budget. Advise would be very much appreciated! Best would be an upgrade that would last me an extra 2 / 3 years.
Cheers!

Solution
Your CPU is on par with a Phenom II kind of like mine. I run a 280 pretty good but I wouldn't suggest going much higher on the GPU scale. The 470 tho is a great price and should make for a good transistion part to kabylake or cannonlake. I suggest the 470 but dont spend more than $179. I dont suggest the 460 as its not very good.nor worthy of a transition part.

Thanks elbert. I was already thinking of the RX470. Just to make sure, you are certain that my CPU, the i7 920 2.67GHz, will not bottleneck this GPU? And, if it does, am I actually able to OC my CPU?

It will on heavy CPU depending games. Bottlenecking isn't a solid wall and is different on every game. Some games do even bottleneck an i5 6600k with a titan to a degree. The average GPU is so powerful the CPU is always the weaker in PC's. This is to say for the price of the 470 the bottlenecking isn't that big a deal when some games will take full advantage of the GPU.

You're a little stuck because while you can still drag some good performance from an old 920 by overclocking that motherboard isn't going to be up to the job.

I would absolutely nor go with anything less than a 1050ti on the GPU front irregardless of what CPU you're running because nothing weaker iavthat great value.

The best way to test is to drop your resolution in game settings to 720p & see if you get what you'd consider respectable fps
If the answer is yes then a GPU upgrade is absolutely the most viable option.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Really helpful so far.
Few more questions:
1. Is my Motherboard (04VWF2) compatible with an RX470? Can't find any information myself unfortunately.
2. Is it actually possible to OC my CPU? As said before, someone stated this wasn't possible.

Thank you. I think I'll be going for the MSI RX470 Gaming X.
I have just did a little bit more research myself and I was able to safely OC my CPU to 3.67GHZ (didn't try 4GHz+ due to it's age). Went perfect, smooth temperature. Once I've bought the new GPU I'll see what I have to update any further. Thanks everyone for your help!
