Hi everyone. I'm pretty new to this and a novice overclocker but id really appreciate any feedback i can get.

I have a amd fx 8320 with a msi gaming 970 mobo. I have seen people in forums saying they got 4.2 - 4.4ghz at the 1.36v stock vcore. My question is, are these people just bullshitting? Or am i extremely unlucky (which wouldn't surprise me) i need 1.400v to get a 4.1ghz and i haven't achieved a stable 4.2 (stopped trying after 4.162v didn't work. Max temps prime95 after 30 min, 4.1ghz , 1.400v 52c. Any ideas?

Ps. By unstable i mean i fail prime95 with a pc restart

Solution
They probably have 990FX boards with strong power phases and better VRMs with cooling.

I don't think it is your CPU here, but rather your motherboard.

I think you might be right. I just got the mobo like 4 months ago so i don't think id be looking into a new one. Next build I'm switching to Intel. Gotta make the best of this for now. I managed to get 4.2 on 1.424 seemtobe stable but that seems high to me for 4.2 i might just be limited to my mobo. The tpin1 (which i think is the nb or vrms) Got to 96c after 20 min prime 95. Probably would have went into the 100s. What do you think i should do? Just clock to 4.0ghz and call it a day?
