Hello,

I have an external system that I want to give wifi capabilities to. And that system is in a room far, far away from where my router is. And I want to wirelessly connect the system's ethernet cable to the router.

Is there a good way to do this? I heard powerline but I'm not sure if the outlets are on the same switches. Someone also told me about wireless receivers, but every time I google wireless receivers there's really no product called wireless receiver.

Solution
A WIFI adapter enables wifi communication, it's 2 way, it sends and receives. A WIFI adapter can be a PCIe board or a USB dongle. If neither a PCIe slot available and no free USB port, you can buy a WIFI router with CLIENT MODE, that converts your ethernet port into a WIFI adapter.

I have a distinct sense that some of you read somewhere that ethernet is best, is the fastest, but alas, you can't hook up an ethernet cable end-to-end, so you are thinking, only if I can somehow "bridge" those 2 ethernets am golden! Uh NO, once you "break" an ethernet cable by any means, wireless, Powerline blah-blah, you will be running at the slower speed these other methods will impose on you.

Wireless is easiest as long as WIFI router is close enough to box you want to hook up, just add a WIFI adapter to the box, forget ethernet complication.

Powerline could work and better than WIFI, performance wise but not guaranteed. Buy somewhere you can return if unhappy.

I repeat, once you break an ethernet cable, you will be running slower.

I see what your saying but what exactly do you mean by a wifi adapter to the box? Wifi adapters are USB sticks that receiver a signal from the router. But my system just has a ethernet jack, no usb.
