Will older motherboards affect newer graphics card performance?

With Cyber Monday silently creeping up, I am thinking about upgrading my system considering it's starting to not be able to play certain video games on palpable settings. But, I had the thought that since my motherboard is older, if it would throttle the performance of even a super high-end graphics card.

Currently my motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77-HD3 (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4408#ov)

And i'm still thinking of a graphics card to put in, but for now let's say a NVIDIA GTX 1070.

Will there be any problems with these two components or components similar to them? And will it throttle?

Solution
The motherboard has the newest PCI Express 3.0 standard. It has a 16X slot so it shouldn't be any problem.
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
(The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
