Hi Friends I want a new cable modem and a router.
I'll be setting up an external hard drive attached with my router for Time machine backup + media sharing in my house. In total i've around 12-15 wireless devices at home (all support 5.0 ghz band). For modem i'm considering motorolla SB6190,

but for routers i'm a little confused. after reading a lot of reviews considering my budget i've these 3 options in my mind.

1) Synology RT1900AC ($150) has good reviews about setting up a NAS but has lower range (i don't know how low, would it be sufficient for a 3 bedroom house?, but really good reviews on NAS features. it supports time machine backup as well.)

2) ASUS AC3200 tri-band router ($180)

3) Linksys AC5400 ($279)
i don't know whether linksys supports time machine backups or not and i could not find information on how good it performs on network storage if an external drive attached to it.

Which router i should go for. Would really appreciate your advice.

In last i have a quick question about external hard drives with time machine backup.
Is it possible to make two partitions of external hard drive (one HFS+ for time machine backup and one on NTFS for media sharing across multiple devices).

Thanks in advance.!!

You might get benefit from a tri-band router. But generally any router beyond AC1900 is just hype. USB storage on a router is usually disappointing in performance compared to a dedicated NAS.
