How can I power a graphic card which requires 1x8-pin and 1x6-pin?

I am building a new custom PC. I'm getting the GALAX GEFORCE® GTX 1070 EXOC-SNPR WHITE 8GB and my PSU is the EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ GOLD 750W Fully Modular. I also order some custom cables. Can I use just one cable with 8-pin connects to the PSU and 6+8-pin connects to the GPU? Or I have to use 2 separated cables (6+2-pin and 8-pin)

Solution
You might actually even just cut off the two wires you don't need. (best at the PSU side of the cable to avoid having them flying around.) Even better would be to just remove them entirely from the plugs aswell.

But be aware that you won't be able to reattach them without going into somewhat dangerous territory.
You will void the warranty of your PSU and you have to make sure you don't get any shorts. So proper isolation will be neccecary.

Its two separate cables. There will be two places to plug power into the GPU, one of them takes the 6+2 and the other takes just the 6 - but both are required for the card to function.

It will make sense once you have all your stuff.

I know I need two cables, but it's gonna make my custom look weird with 2-pin hanging outside. I just wonder that can I use a Y split which has one head is 8-pin to the PSU and on another is 8+6-pin to the GPU?

Er, yeah sure as long as it is wired correctly.

In theory you could exceed the current rating of the wire, by doubling it up some people swear to never use an adapter. But the PSU and the GPU certainly don't care.

So it's safe to use the Y-splitter? I just don't wanna fry my GPU.

This might be a stupid question but if a GPU has a 1x6and a 1x8 connector will it draw more power?
