I'm using Cat6 cables. The condo is wired for Cat6 according to the wall ports. I have the correct drivers as far as I'm aware. Ive tried the ethernet on my other laptop and it doesn't work either so i think its a network issue. The cables are; Coaxial----Modem----Router----wall port 1----cable in wall----wall port 2-----PC. I'll check if I'm using matching ports but does that even matter?

Thanks for any help, I've been working on this for several hours and I'm quite frustrated that my new PC can't get online.

i used to have that modem, it died a few months ago, didn't even last a year.

Modem aside... the only issue i could fathom is wiring... is the right ethernet connected to the right jack?
does the port light up when you connect it?
how about the switch, is it managed or unmanaged?
Linksys routers can be tricky if you don't know what you're doing, i highly recommend Netgear for novices as they are user friendly.
Usually gaming motherboards either use Intel or BFN chipsets, and if it uses BFN there is a high probability that it was DOA...

BFN = BigFoot Networks, they are the inventor of the "Gaming NIC" aka the Killer Xeno Pro Gaming NIC they make the Killer E series that are mostly seen on Gaming motherboards now-a-days. ...aaaand...

its a possibility, but i'm not sure, i'd have to see the termination of this wall wiring, but it sounds like, wires are being crossed, and it would seem that your motherboard and router don't support crossover protection...

What style termination did you use?

I prefer the TIA 568B wiring termination, but to each their own.

I didn't wire anything myself. The builder wired everything. If I have to I'll check the wiring but since I've never done that before I'd prefer not to. If it helps my motherboard is Gigabyte GA-Z170x-Gaming 3, my router is Linksys EA6900, and the modem is a Motorola SURFboard SB6121
